As some of you have found out, I’m a complete snob when it comes to cars looking OEM-esque. I especially hate that so many muscle car owners put Torq Thrusts on their cars when there are so much better choices.

Snob!

Also, they don’t make any of those in 4x98, or I might consider any of them...

Any info on these? I see this style (wire wheels with the protruding 3 blade center cap) on classic muscle cars, Ferraris, older British cars...

Torq Thrusts are what RPF1's are to import cars. They look good on almost everything and don’t break the bank.

Don’t dare disparage the name of RPF1s by comparing them to Torq Thrusts. RPF1s actually have performance cred, Torq thrusts just look awful.

Magnum 500/Rostyle wheels, FTW!

Kinja'd!!!

Also, I offer counter-evidence to your Torque Thrust statement:

Kinja'd!!!

Somehow I’ve only found 3-5 pictures of this generation of Ranger rocking these wheels and only 2 running the 15" instead of the 16" variant. It fits, a very tight fit, but it fits. I bought them as a birthday/father’s day gift for pops.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between Torq Thrusts and OEM wheels.

Wire wheels with knockoffs? Good on 60's and earlier sports cars, tacky on much anything else. Fake knockoffs are the worst.

I totally agree with you. I’d also like to say Enkei RPF1s are amazing and they look amazing on my NA. I’d also also like to say that I’ve been drinking.

I love the rally wheels with RWL tires.

Pardon the blocks, that’s from the beginning of the still-ongoing-but-almost-done trans swap.

Most of the wire wheels on Ferraris and such are made by Borrani, a company which still exists, and still makes wire wheels.

Wire wheels with knockoff center hubs. That “3 bladed cap” is what’s holding the wheel on.

Rudge Whitworth made wheels for many cars of this era.

Can’t say I’m a fan, they’re not very truck-ish IMO. Cast finish center Torq Thrusts are the only acceptable ones.

It was intentional to avoid truck-ish wheels because that’s all we see down in South Carolina. Pops and I don’t care for the styles used on the all the Carolina-squatters, mudders/offroaders, and riced brodozers. He’s a man of simple tastes and he liked the Ford Torque Thrust look-alike on his ‘08 GT. It’s a street truck with an open diff and RWD, we’ll probably never take it off road unless we swap in a 8.8 LSD, so we saw no need for it to look like another wannabe offroader.

Also, it’s super-easy to clean them and Tire Rack had something like a 40% sale on the black w/ machined lip variant versus the cast anthracite with machined lip, no cast finishes available for the TTD on TR.

What’s a good example of a cast finish Torque Thrust?

Kinja'd!!! "daender" (daender)
09/27/2017 at 22:01, STARS: 0

Neither did I! I chose them simply because they were the most affordable wheel for sale on Tire Rack for the Ranger at the time and the fact they almost no one seemed to use them on Rangers! They look a lot better than the gaudy OEM chrome styles.

I like my Thrusts. I went between these and Vintage Wheel Works VN60s, and Magnum 500s. Since I wanted to replace the really really bad wheels on a budget, I went with the Thrusts. There are still times I think of a Bullitt clone/style Cougar.

Obligatory Cougar pic.

I wanted torq thrust whirls for my jeep a long time ago, but wasn’t going to buy new and I know I scratch them up off road. So I kind of quit looking. I also knew it was kind of dumb.

With original paint, I would’ve ponied up the few extra $$ for OEM style. I’m the same way when it comes to wheels, I generally like something OEM.
