Kinja'd!!!

You might be wondering why this episode of unnecessary car shopping with E90M3 features a 2016 M3 . Well, I was seeing if anyone had an E9X M3 with a DCT near me as I’ve never drive an E9X M3 with a DCT; I figure that I should at some point. Well, while looking for one of those I came across this 2016 M3. I’ve actually been for a test drive in this exact car, except when I drove it, they wanted 61.4k for it. That was back on August 12th. They’ve since knocked 3.9k off the price. I guess the demand just isn’t there.

My CA friends buy M3s and M4s at invoice.

BMW and MB are just flooding the market with M everything and AMG everything, much to the despair of long-time enthusiasts.

I haven’t driven the newest 3/4 but I think the sedan looks better and if I were getting a coupe I’d go e92 because I weirdly dislike the m4. Also the e9x sound infinitely better and sound is half the fun to me.

Is it new? If so that explains it, most manual buyers who are buying new tend to order rather than buy off the lot.

Sixty large, silver (read: boring) and 19k miles does not a sale easily make

I mean, low mileage manual E90s even in boring colors didn’t last more than like a week on the market back in 2014.

It’s used, done 20k miles.

Yeah, the E9X sound way better. I think some of the portions on the M4 look strange, the M3 looks a lot better to my eye.

“gut genug” is “good enough” in German. That’s basically how BMW engineered the F80. It’s fairly soulless in comparison to the E9x. I think enthusiasts have caught on.

There are a couple people around work with M2's and M3's. One of the worst sounds in the world is one of those new straight-6's porking through the parking garage. They sound broken and they sound like garbage.

I think this generation of M3 is going to be like the E21. Most people remember the 2002 and the E30, but forget about the car the bridged the gap: the E21. Years from now, we’ll remember the E9X M3 and whatever comes after the F8X. BMW does at times listen to enthusiast, hence why we got a manual E60 in North America only, so hopefully this bodes well for the future.

Hope the manual take rate is high enough on this, the M4 and M2 that the option will still be around in the next generation.

I think they’re high enough, especially for the M2. They had a 30 Jahre M3 at United BMW of Roswell and that was sporting 3 pedals, so that’s probably a good sign. I can’t find a source, but I think it’s still above 30%, which is significant enough to warrant a manual choice.

The E9x M3 is a sensational machine. I fell in love with it myself. I may still have one some day in the future, when I have the 16 car garage my GF says that I need.

The F80 though, is completely uninteresting and unexciting. It doesn’t feel special. It’s a hopped up 340i.

Even though it lacks a manual gearbox and is rather nose heavy, I’d much rather have an RS5 with that glorious 4.2 liter V8 than the F80 M3/M4.

My former roommate just traded her 13 Mustang for an 11 M3 with the DCT.. She won’t let me drive it, but after riding in it a few times, I can’t say I’m a fan of how it shifts..

The DCT shifts smoothly in my dad’s 135is.

I’m in love with the sound of my neighbors M2. That said... She’s definitely done some work to it. Zero mufflers, and I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the cats were removed as well

If I were single and didn’t have a kid, I would sell the FoST today and go buy this. But alas marriage and 7-month-old = wallet diarrhea.

F8x’s just aren’t that good. They’re not bad. Just not good. And I have better sounding farts.

Possibly, maybe the previous owners trashed it too much. I’d have to drive it or at least ride in it, but every BMW DCT I’ve driven has been pretty smooth.

Must be something with the added torque of the turbo sixes that makes people like the quickness of the DCT better. I know a guy who has an M2 DCT, got an allocation for the Competiton Package 6 spd, and after it arrived is keeping his DCT and getting rid of the 6 spd, says he can’t ignore the DCT being quicker though he does Autocross and track it as well

Probably because most car enthusiasts are either broke (like me) or financially sensible enough to not pay that much for any car. So we whine about manuals while the only people that actually buy new ///M cars are rich people who generally couldn’t care less about having a manual. That’s why the new M5 is going to have a ZF 8-speed as the only option, because nobody bought the F10 M5 with a manual.

I think most people who can afford this would rather just buy new. When I got my E90, I had enough money to buy a brand new one. Problem was it was 2014 and the M3 wasn’t readily available and I wasn’t too sure about the F80. If I had waited another year I’d walked into the dealer and paid straight cash and picked it up in Germany.

You probably made the right choice there, the E90 M3 is a lot more special than the F80 M3... it’s the last naturally-aspirated ///M car, and the last that you could buy without iDrive.

That being said, I can’t even afford a “cheap” E90 M3 in cash. The E39 M5 is about the newest ///M car that I can buy in cash (I bought one for $7k last year, it was the most expensive car I had ever bought at that point).

I almost feel like a non-iDrive E90 will look a lot less dated in 10-20 years, whereas the iDrive will look downright prehistoric, kinda like the iDrive on the E65 7 series.
