Kinja'd!!!

I have owned 9 cars since I started driving. I have them all in a spreadsheet. This allows me to make odd observations.

Two thirds of the cars I’ve owned have been 500cc per cylinder, including all four of my current cars.

Three of the cars were automatic, the remaining six were manual.

I’ve owned two RWD, one 4WD, two AWD, and four FWD cars.

My average buy price is $9,800.

On average, my vehicles have 5.7 cylinders. (Oddly I’ve only owned one V6)

The average displacement is 3.3L with the highest displacement vehicle was a 6.4L V8, the lowest a 1.6L four.

My average duration of ownership is 3.0 years, with 1.33 years being the shortest and 5.0 being the longest.

My average number of doors is 2.9, with 0 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

The average horsepower is 177, with 255 being the highest and 38 the lowest.

My average HP/TON is 105, with 158 the highest and 51 the lowest.

I have owned cars from 5 different countries: 2x Japan, 2x Sweden, 2x American, 1x Italian, 1x British, and 1x German.

Haha - I have a spreadsheet, too - it’s fun to track geeky stuff like that. My average # of doors (out of 12 cars) is only 2.5. And the average # of gears in the automatic cars (9/12) is only 3.4 - dragged down by a couple of 2 speed autos.

My displacement range is pretty similar- - from 1.9l to 6.5l.

Only 3/12 aren’t American brands - oddly, I currently own those 3 foreign cars.

Interesting! I didn’t include gears (though, of course, it is on the sheet) but my average is 4.7. All the autos are/ were 4-speed and the manuals ranged from 4 to 6, so not a surprising result. (Though I never actually got the Scout into 4th, I was assured it was there!)

Wow your average length of ownership is much longer than mine. In fact the longest I’ve owned a car is 2.5 years. My 91 Galant is currently tied with my 91 Civic for longest ownership. Although technically I still own the Civic it just hasn’t been registered for 5 years

Ha- my manuals have all been 5 speeds, but the autos range from 2 to 6 gears - and I’ve had everything in between from 2 to 6 gears, too. 2- 2 speed; 4- 3 speed, and one each of 4, 5 and 6 speed autos.

My averages are skewed a bit by the cars I drove early on— 3/12 were built before 1965, and two more were from the early 70's. So, think big 2 doors, with lots of displacement and pistons, with low specific outputs and few forward gears.

And, I presume your 0 door car is in the picture, right?

You have had a 6.4V8 (Murica), 5.7V8 (Murica), 4.0V8 (God Save The Queen), 3.0V6 (Tre Kroner), 3.0V6 (Anime), 2.0I4 (Tre Kroner), 2.0I4 (Spaghetti), 2.0I4, 1.6I4 (Anime).

Or something. BTW you only listed 8 countries for 9 cars.

4.0 V8 - British (2001 LR Discovery)

3.0 V6 - Japanese (2001 Honda Accord V6)

2.5 I5 - Swedish (2013 Volvo C30)

2.0 I4 - Swedish (1984 Saab 900)

2.0 I4 - Italian (1987 Alfa Spider)

2.0 I4 - Japanese (2009 Civic Si)

I believe in really, fully committing to my mistakes! Haha the shortest I’ve owned something was 1.38 years. Longest continuous ownership is the my old Accord at 5.00 years, though the Volvo is about to pass it. I’ve technically had my Saab since 2001, or about 16.3 years, but there was a large gap where it sat that I don’t count.

When (if) I get my collection stable, I’d love to try my hand at a rotating car. Buy, fix, and drive until it sells then repeat.

Figured the last one had to be another 3.0 because that equaled a 3.3L average exactly... Your average is 3.244. Not a big deal, after all it’s a freaking oppo post. And it’s enough to get close.

But it’s interesting how much difference knocking off a decimal makes. SEE KIDS THIS IS WHY YOUR TEACHERS SAY NOT TO ROUND UNTIL YOU’RE DONE

Oooooh I see the problem. My spreadsheet is based on whatever the car is commonly refered to as and the liter rating is calculated in those cases. So the Buggy is based on CC (1647cc) and the Scout is based on 392 cubic inches, so there are a lot of suppressed decimals that the equations know about, but you can’t see. Technically my average is 3.252.

I think based on this, some of these could use updating because technically the Saab is like 1985CC or something like that...

Math! This is why your teachers said to always know how your data is being calculated, because your spreadsheet may be too complicated for its own good!

When can we expect an Evora write up! How is the usability, cost, etc. compared to your Cayman etc?

Driving a Lotus on CA backroads is hands down the best driving experience I have had short of an HPDE outing. Unfortunately I cannot justify a 10 year old, crummy interior car that is likely to be replaced by a new model in 2-3 years time.

I think I’ll hold off until I get to Georgia (moving in January) and can get it on some proper twisties. Right now I’m loving it. So gorgeous in person, I was never a fan of the pictures but seeing them in person is something else.

I think I got a great price on it and it’s the color I wanted...been holding off for one with metallic orange paint.

Out the door it was about 17k more than the Cayman S, so that’s more expensive. The interior is very cool but nothing to write home about. I put in a new exhaust (stock sucks and is heavy) and it sounds so good that I have not thought of the Cayman once while driving it. The handling is definitely better and more telepathic than the Cayman, but different than the Elise for sure.

Cayman had more storage. So there’s that. This one came with only 11k miles and was in brand new shape. I love detailing cars and keeping the paint nice so I’ve appreciated how clean this one came (bought sight unseen from across the country).

Overall, I love the uniqueness. The cool factor of the evora over the Cayman is worth it to me. Not once did I go sneak a peak in the garage at the Cayman. I didn’t make excuses to go drive to the grocery store to pick up a single item with the Cayman. I’m a quirky, Lotus guy. After owning a Viper and a Porsche, I now know where my loyalty stands.

Damn, that was longer than I thought!

TLDR: evora is way cooler than Cayman

Awesome - glad to hear you are enjoying it! I hear ya on the clean car, I only wish I had been more patient in locating a Z4MC. Instead mine is the victim of many gas station car washes and in need of mild paint correction.

How does the Evora compare to the Elise? Could one DD the Evora year-round in a fair weather state? Some concerns about squeezing hockey equipment into it but I could find a way.

You and your significant other only have two cars? what a way to live sir!

I think the evora is prettier than the Elise. I think the handling was more fun in the Elise and was a Better car for a 25 year old, and this one for a much more mature and older (/s) 29 year old. Different animals.

We have the Evora and the 08 Camry that came with her to our marriage. It handles the more practical life events like vacations with the dogs. I also have a motorcycle that I commute with most days since I live in desert it’s usually a good day to ride.

I’ll pick up a beater or something when I move, but mainly cause I don’t wanna be too flashy when I start my new job. You are asking the wrong guy about dd’ing things. I’ve dd’ed an Elise for 6 months (in between dd’s) and a Viper for a year. I’ve never lived (Minus my car-less college years) in the NE or where it snows a lot so I’ll figure that one out if I ever live in a place like that, but hopefully never have to!

I hear ya - hitting 29 soon but my tastes vary from teenager to retiree at times. My wife and I use the Miata RF and Z4MC to split duties for now. Going on 2+ years DDing the Z4 and I am itching to find a reliable hatchback/wagon to assume all practical usage and pull baby duty if and when the need arises.

Cut from the same cloth, balancing the life is too short for boring cars attitude with rising maintenance costs and the fact that boring miles are no fun period.
