To celebrate the fact that kinja is loading comments for me again, here is a before and after video of a cold start on my STi. I installed a Nameless muffler delete and it sounds glorious. The video obviously doesn’t do it justice.

It’s a little loud for it to have come from the factory like this, but Subaru should have been closer to this than what they came up with for the stock muffler. It was not only quiet, but still droney and not good sounding.

The sound with the muffler-delete matches the character of the car perfectly. It’s a rowdy, obnoxious car with a huge wing, after all. I also like the look of the slightly-larger tips, 3.5" vs 3.0" with new hangers to bring the tips up higher and closer to the bumper.

Despite how good this sounds, a midpipe is in my future (for Christmas???) because I need more of those good good crackles and pops. Currently, with the axle-back you get a little pop if you shift very aggressively, but it’s not quite there yet.

I’m thinking about a nameless muffler delete on my 2.5i Forester. How is the quality of the parts?

They seem very high quality, but I’m not a welding expert. Depending on how much you customize, the build time could be up to a month. It took about three weeks for mine. If you get one from a re-seller, that wouldn’t be an issue.

How does the NA 2.5 sound without a muffler?

screw the midpipe if you want noise you need a downpipe (and a tune). if you really want to be obnoxious get an up-pipe with an external waste gate, that’ll stop the boost creeping you’ll get with a downpipe in winter as well.

FYI you neighbors will hate you for those deletes during cold mornings, especially if you get a down pipe.

It sounds better than the EJ 2.5, in part because I think it has equal length headers now. But it is pretty quiet and bland. I saw a few videos of the axle-back and it seems like fun. The nice thing about the axleback is if it sounds like crap I can always just unbolt it and put the regular muffler back on.

Noted, but I don’t feel like getting a tune until my warranty is up.

6 years (or 60k miles )is like a tenth of your driving life, why spend it bored?

Wait 10k miles for any crib deaths, that do sometimes happen and you really do want your warranty for, then have fun

First of all, you’re not wrong, just a bad influence. Second, I think my warranty is only 36k miles / 3 years. That’s all I’m planning on waiting at least.

Thirdly, the STi is never exactly boring, just fun to mod.

3/36 bumper to bumper and 6/60 power train

Every turbo Subaru deserves a downpipe and a protune. It just makes them so much more fun.

That said, to do it safely you would be wise to educate yourself heavily and you’ll have to deal with the additional upkeep that comes with having a mechanically modified vehicle.

(I have a modified 15 WRX )
