New or new to you? Nikon D90s were the best I worked on. Few 200s I think. I pushed heavy on upgrading to industrial Lumineras.
If you like cameras, the Cohu PTZs we use now are ah-may-zing in comparison.

Google Redflex and Chicago. The very mention of Chicago was so hush hush and taboo after the corporate cleansing that occurred. That all took place a few years prior to my onboarding. The details were scarce but from what I remember there were specific mentions of super bowl tickets and other “gifts”. So not quite big industry lobbying gifts.

Dallas. It’s a contentious topic here. Texans value their god-given right to not be caught doing something illegal. There was a setup at an intersection near me that caught me a few years ago. I just noticed it’s gone now. That’s why I think they must have voted them down in city council.

That’s a big contract. Previously held by Xerox, then ATS just won a 7 year in April. They won the VB contract last year which was pretty substantial too. However they underbid it and the whole project was fubar for a while.

I know someone that writes firmware for those cameras.
He and I worked together at another company that did covert and overt surveillance equipment for military and law enforcement applications. We also worked on microwave wireless radio firmware. I did both firmware and software...
So my question, based on my experience in the industry: Is their security still as ghastly-terrible as it was 4 years ago? It seemed to be a repository for a lot of old fashioned people that were utterly incompetent when it came to modern network/systems security practices.

They’re attempting to get better, but mind you that’s not saying much from my experience in that in late 2013 I was tasked with updating the local systems from 2000 to XP.... So I’ll let you draw your own conclusions

These are highly illegal in my state (speed and red light). The law states that you must face your accuser...no exceptions. If there is a camera, a police officer must be watching the camera which only gives probable cause to check/inspect trucks. Speed must be done by pacing or calibrated radar (if done by camera my understanding is policeman watching two different cameras on same corridor and notices avg speed over certain # of miles is way over speed limit...very rare).
What we have instead is a blue light behind some traffic signals. This shows when the light is red from behind the signal...it does not include the all red phase...so when a police officer observes the blue light and you’re blowing through the intersection...he/she can go after you.
