262C Bertone, unusual late 70s car.

It’s a 262C Bertone. So, a lot more special than a run of the mill 240.

Two, which would normally go on the bottom of the front fenders. Mine are in a little plastic baggie that’s sealed from Volvo, since new old stock to replace the ones that went missing years ago.

Two crown emblems on the C-pillars as well, and if mine had the original steering wheel, it’d have one there, too. However, mine has a 240 Turbo wheel swapped in, to go with the intercooled 240 Turbo drivetrain under the hood.

Cool :)

Is it better in any measurable way from the regular Volvo?

Hella jelly. I used to own a regular old 240 years ago. Great car, never once broke down and if it did you can fix it with a toothpick.

Other than looking way cooler than my 244 or my cousin’s 242? Let’s see, the interior is way better. Leather everywhere. Leather covering the A, B and C pillars, leather covering the door panels, leather seats, leather side panels in the back, leather covering the E-brake cover... So much leather, and they added extra cigarette lighters because Italy.

Also, the sunvisor is way more effective on the 262C than on a standard 240, because it’s the same part, but they chopped four inches off the roof, so it can block your view of everything.

It had one major disadvantage from the factory, with the B28, but that was fixed about three or four owners back with a BAR-approved intercooled B21FT swap. So, it’s the best of both, really.

As I recall, they lowered the roof, put vinyl on it, luxed it up a bit, and added badges. Oh, and licensed the Bertone name. Driven a 264 of the era - nice cars.

It actually wasn’t licensed. Volvo shipped standard 242 bodies to Italy, where the folks at Bertone chopped the roof, added luxury and slapped a “made in Italy” plate on it.

Well, that’s the way to do it. Imagine Bertone weeping at the task before him ...

In the true spirit of this clash of sensible familiy sedan and personal luxury car AKA pimpmobile, I ran the name of the Swedish primeminister of the 70s (Olof Palme) trough a pimp name generator:

A guy who worked at one of my company’s locations was selling his a little over 10 years ago...when I didn’t have the cash. I wish I had that opportunity today.

Congrats!
