Our friends went to New Orleans for the weekend and left us in the care of their 1yo male Golden Retriever. For watching their poorly trained misbehavior of a dog, they brought us a gift.
It tastes like campfire. It’s simply not good. When I think about good coffee, this isn’t it.
Go camping. After breakfast in the morning take some ash and burnt wood from the fire pit and dump it in a cooler full of water. Let it bake in the sun all day, and that evening filter the water through some cheesecloth to get rid of the chunks. I imagine the result is kind of how this tastes.
The best I can say about it is that I appreciate the gesture.

turn shit brew into drinkable brew by making cold brew! it takes less of the oils and acids so less of the flavors translates.

They have that for sale at our local grocery store, I was super excited to try it. Took it with me to work and couldn’t believe how bad it was. I suffered through the whole can because I’m a cheap-ass. That was a bad month.

I’ve been to Cafe du Monde on a Sunday morning and waited in a long line. The beignets were worth it. The coffee was forgettable. But I guess you can’t really bring beignets home with you so they tried what they could.

I lived in new Orleans for 4 years, and this is what I’ll say about that. Make a cafe au lait with it (half coffee, half steamed milk), have a beignet covered in powdered sugar, and you’re good. Otherwise, chicory tastes like grass.

Yeah, chicory coffee is one of those polarizing things folks tend to love or hate. I honestly really like it, but I also recognize that it’s most definitely not for every one. I also have lots of fond memories of trips to New Orleans, and the taste of chicory coffee always brings those to mind, so I’m sure that plays a part in my enjoyment of it.

I wish you had asked BEFORE you tried it. I would have warned you.
It tasted like burnt wood because chicory is the root of a weed that fancy people like to call endive . The leaves of endive are bitter and nasty and the root is even worse. It amazes me that people who can come up with such great food will drink that swill. We have one guy in the office who insists on making a pot of chicory coffee every morning. He’s the only one who drinks it.

I really like coffee and chicory, but the taste is not for everyone. I find Community Coffee’s version to be better, but if you don’t like the basic taste it probably won’t matter. Did you drink it black, because that is how I think it is best?
I enjoy the earthy taste, but then again I also like my tea to be earthy and bitter, and my whisky to taste like biting into a burning chunk of peat.

Chickory is a weed! I never understood why that would be a good filler for Coffee.
This stuff will get you going. I haven’t had store bought stuff since a friend recommended it almost 10 years ago.
