Today on my way home, i noticed a car that had stalled out in the middle of the road. instead of stopping and helping the guy push the car 20 feet up an incline to a safer zone, everyone would rather honk and squeeze into one lane then help a guy out.

fucking people. It takes 30 seconds & a little bit of leg muscle. I was off the bike for less then a minute helping the poor dude.

But isn’t it like an injured animal? Aren’t you supposed to leave it alone?

no, injured animals you kill with a swift blow the the head, then pending on the animal, skin, season, wrap the meat around your exhaust headers, and then you have a tasty meal when you get home.

source: best rabbit I’ve ever had was roadkilled and then a guy in our group did just that

True, but that can be very risky for any individual to push a car and risk getting hit by another inattentive driver.

Call the cops. Call AAA.

Over the weekend we saw a stand-up paddleboarder paddle by our house. A bit later, maybe 30 minutes (?) I looked out and saw her off the board, trying to get back on. I didn’t think anything of it, looked away. A few minutes later, she’s swimming along with the board, not on the board and no longer trying to get on. She’s not out in a current or anything, but I had no idea where she was going. Many hundreds of feet at minimum. I watched two boats go right by her, then finally got in my boat to go out and ask if she needed a hand. “Sure!” she said. She climbed onto my swimdeck and hopped back on the board. “Thank you so much!” she said, “I couldn’t get back on with this bulky lifejacket! So I was swimming with it, and didn’t want to take off the lifejacket to climb on the board, because what if I couldn’t do that for some reason, even though I’ve done it before. So it was going to be a long swim home!”

I mean, several boats came within 100 feet of her while she was struggling. I was 600 feet away on land. Seriously, people.

I’ve rescued upside-down sailboats in front of the house, too - similar conditions. Other people around, no one with a freakin clue of what someone in mild distress might look like.

I used to live on a busy road. during one nasty winter storm a large branch came down in the middle of the road. Instead of staying warm in my house i suited up and went out to start pulling it off the road. Instead of anyo ne helping me, they just sat there in their cars and watched me slip and stumble. I eventually got it off the road just as some guy like 10 cars back came up to help.

I still feel guilty about not helping even when there is no real way I can. I used to call it in to 911 or something with my phone. But now everyone has a phone. So I just empathize quietly and drive on.

I’m usually inclined to give folks a hand in those situations, if it’s not too dangerous. Commute time? People are buttholes.

If the tires are warm enough it’ll leave a nice smoky flavor and do a decent job of pulverizing the meat for you!

Thank you.

I’ve broken down once where I needed to get out and push. Busy road, everybody is honking and yelling. Finally an old guy stops his car behind me, puts his hazard lights on and helps me push the car to a nearby gas station. Dude must have been 80 and he didn’t even say anything, just started pushing next to me

A couple years ago I helped push a car. Poor girl was maybe 20. Hazards on. People were blowing their horn at her and screaming at her. She was in tears. I told her to hang on and I parked in the lot that we pushed her into. Once I started pushing a group of guys who were hanging out in the parking lot ran over to help (they had been there since before me).

Took just a few minutes and helped clear up traffic.
