The Kode cars were on display at Concorso Italiano, during the Monterey car week, and I was lucky enough to see them in person.

The Kode 57 was featured on Jay Leno’s channel today. It reminded me of how I was rendered speechless and awkwardly thanked Ken for making it.

The way those two lines run from the tip of the hood -

go under this extended wheel well, behind the rising sill “wave” and -

flow through the end of the car meeting at the rear deck is especially beautiful.

Kinja'd!!!

The tail lights are simple but very cool.

Kinja'd!!!

The doors are magic.

Kinja'd!!!

And the engine is right behind the speedometer!

Kinja'd!!!

Ken also bought the Kode 0.

Kinja'd!!!

It looks like a modern interpretation of the classic wedge design.

Kinja'd!!!

Quite stunning, but its hard to compete with the Kode 57.

Kinja'd!!!

The pictured air intake on the doors, starting from behind the front wheel arch going into the engine, is called the stairway to heaven. This is quite apt, because they started it up and it sounded like an absolute monster.

Kinja'd!!!

Also, its all green inside!

If by “spectacular” you mean “considerably worse looking than the original car they’re based on”

Is that a hyper car?

When I see a Lambo or a Ferrari, I usually make a show of yawning and looking unimpressed, but that red one held my gaze.

You have made a typo. It’s Kode57 (no space).

And there’s no Wikipedia entry for it.

The green interior is a callback to the the stripe on the Dome Zero.

Yes, I feel the same way!

It’s based on the Ferrari 599 and had it’s V12, so it’s a super car.

What is the difference between a super car and a hyper car? The story I read said the Kode57 was $2.5 million.

Supercars with similar horsepower have become “common” (in relative terms). Even the new M5 has like 550 hp lol

So car manufacturers have been stepping up the crazy on their already fast performance cars, which are called hypercars. Any Koeniggsegg or Pagani or the P1 is a hypercar.

The line is blurred though. There is no definition that’s set in stone.

I would personally consider this a supercar. It’s the design, the limited builds (only 5 total) and boutique coachwork that has brought up the price tag.

They are interesting for sure, but I think I’d rather have a 599 SA Aperta for open top 599ness. Some of those design elements are bonkers in the best way possible though.

Yeah, the bonkers design and coachwork is what you pay (2.5 mil) for (if he likes you).
