I love all the comments about people not having anything to lose, as if that’s the ONLY reason or motivation people would have for making statements which others may perceive as controversial.
Like all the reaction Bruce Maxwell, of the Oakland Athletics, got for being the first MLB player to kneel during the National Anthem. To wit:

Maybe, just maybe people are speaking out about these kinds of things not because they don’t have anything to lose, but because they have principles and think it’s important to stand by them.

I was saying why Dale Jr.

have something to lose. Because thousands of angry Bubbas blowing up NBC saying Dale Jr. is a heretic or whatever could very well cost him something.

The one thing this whole brouhaha has taught me resoundingly well is how few people actually understand the laws that govern our country, especially the Constitution. And how little people actually understand what free speech, political protest and civil rights are. It makes me want to bash my head against a wall sometimes.
And Trump may be a bloviated buffoon, but he has done one thing remarkably well: he has singlehandedly convinced droves of people that Colin Kaepernick’s (and everyone else’s) kneeling is a concerted dig at the American flag and the National Anthem as symbols.
So now you have all these reactionary “MERICUH!” people frothing at the mouth about “how dare these rich athletes disrespect muh flag, muh anthem and MUH FREEDOM!” without realizing their own ignorance or the irony of it all.
BLM activist Deray McKesson likened Trump’s inflammatory suggestion to NFL owners to discipline and fire players for protesting to the slave master/slave owner dichotomy. I’ve gotta say, he ain’t wrong.

I posted DEJ’s tweet over on THAT thread on black flag.
Sure he has less to lose now that he is retiring but he is still one of the most visible and well known NASCAR people among the general public. So his word still has weight. Kudos to him.
