Fuck Ford. Fuck Navistar. And fuck whoever packaged that piece of shit engine in that fucking truck.

I just spent my entire weekend helping my dad remove, rebuild and then reinstall the turbo on his 6.0l diesel Ford F-250 Super Duty. I told him not to buy that POS but he thought he’d save a few bucks. Fuck him too. (Not really but that was a stupid fucking thing to do.)

Still, that sounds like a good bonding experience with your dad. And rebuilding a turbo? I can point to one under the hood, but that’s about it. Good job.

I wouldn’t drive a ford without a bumper to bumper warranty. I’ve seen dome crazy shit brake on our work cars, an Explorer and a F350 superduity.

Nobody should have to work on an engine while standing on a ladder. My dad is 70 years old so he used a set of scaffolding but I had the ladder. All in all fishing is a much better bonding experience.

He thought he had a warranty on the engine but it only covered thing inside of the engine. Everything that sucks about that thing, the turbo, egr system, etc. isn’t covered. Ford has built decent engines but that certainly isn’t one of those.

Time to throw a hand full of turbo parts into the intake and finish it off.

In Ford’s meager defense, they didn’t design that engine... although they did do the packaging!

Seriously though, the 6.0 has a lot of design flaws stock. It can be made into a great engine, by replacing / improving / eliminating everything that Navistar cost-reduced. (I won’t attempt to answer the question “why?”)

As someone who wrenched on his own 7.3 for 265k+ miles, I feel your pain. I bought a top side creeper and a little platform when I finally got tired of laying on top of very pointy engine parts, and spending the next week with my chest covered in bruises. Some days it felt like everything in the valley of a 7.3 was razor sharp.

Both my dad and I have arms that were chewed up by all of that sharp stuff. Who did the packaging on that thing, the Marquis De Sade? I certainly understand why shops that can take the cab off when working on those things.

I’ve said it before, the primary automative engine packaging design rule is:

For anything needing service, you can see it and you can touch it... just not at the same time.

Sometimes it’s easier to remove the cab.

Seriously.

Believe me, if we had the means to do it we would have.
