The little winglets on the end of the splitter and skirts bother me. They’re completely attached to the body and seem completely aerodynamically pointless. Also the rear flare/door intersection is awful.

Just IMO, not IMHO? I have not seen one in person so I really can’t say if I like it or not but I do like the Type R in the photos I have seen.

Local Honda dealer had 3 about a month ago for a car get together. White, Blue, and Black. My observation is that the darker the color, the less the ridiculous stuff shows and the better it looks. The black is something I’d consider owning, while I wouldn’t drive the white if it was half off. I’d buy it at half off, strip off all the ugly tacky garbage and trade those bits to a regular civic hatch owner for their equivalent bits.

Especially when you see all the black plastic “vents” and notice the scale of it. The car doesn’t see, that big until you see it in real life and realize those are 20" wheels, not 17 or 18

Yeah a Type R couldn’t possibly look clean or understated. It should totally look like a 2001 Fast and Furious/ transformers hybrid nightmare

I was actually at a Honda dealer when I saw one first (picking up someone who dropped their car off) and one of the salesmen walked up to me and said something to the effect of “You need one right? we can finance” to which I replied “No sir, I don’t need one. If I did I think I’d drop the cash on a Subaru.” He looked disappointed, but realistically, it’s not worth the money to me.

The old type-r’s aren’t really relavent to me. I’ve never seen one despite being in an incredible car area, and I probably never will. So I don’t judge the current one by it’s Honda heritage, more so by its competition and purpose. To me the new R is a Civic doing a wrx/evo impression, but better. Lots of power, fancy tech to handle that power, and over the top boy-racer aesthetics. Polarizing, but certainly not awful.
If you want clean/understated there’s always the Golf R. Or hell, even the Sti is heading in that direction
Another way of looking at it - if it had looked like previous gens we both know the majority of the owners would have riced them out within a year and made them stylistically worse than they are now

I just saw one in the wild for the first time the other day. It was red and awesome. Then it pulled a random U-turn in the middle of a 4 lane road, cut it wide, ended up in the grass/dirt next to the road and just continued with the turn kicking up a big cloud of dust. It was surreal.

As for being better than an Evo, or STI. Eh sure it’s got lots of power, but it’ll still FWD.

Same here, I’d buy a Subaru way before a Type R. Yeah it’s got lots of power, but it’s still FWD, and not small or light enough to be a fun FWD car. Don’t get me wrong I love FWD cars but they have a limit and really only work as a budget, or compromise option to a better performance package.
If I’m spending upwards of 35 grand I want more than a big wing and 330hp.

I think it would work better if the “R” wasn’t being shouted down by the giant Honda logo. On a US car, the logo has too much of a JDM YO vibe.
