Completely random question, but what’s the general opinion on the Eagle Talon here? Was it good? Was it trash? Would it be worth buying one? etc.

Fun fact, many years ago my dad bought a four wheeler called a Manco(Manufacturing Company) Talon. It had its own plastic and frame but a Honda drivetrain. I forgot my point.

Its good. DSM is good. I like mine.
But find one that’s been taken care off. Unless it’s your second car, and you want to wrench on it. They are money pits, even if you keep them stock. Doesn’t help that even the newest ones are 16 years old now,
Mine might be worse than others because it’s a 91 and was neglected by a non enthusiast owner from 01-15. It was driving occasionally, but maintained.

i had a 98 AWD 5spd car that made 300WHP and it was amazing. They have some quirks but pretty much everything is known about them

Great cars, but most got abused during the Fast and Furious craze. Given the fast/cheap/reliable equation, most 2nd/3rd owners picked fast and cheap. Avoid someone else’s abandoned project car unless you’re somewhat masochistic and have money to burn.
Not Toyota/Honda reliable, but on par or better than most manufacturers of that era in stock form. Interference engines that cannot have belt replacements neglected. The 2G 7 bolt engines were known for suffering from crank walk, but such issues should by sorted out by now. Remember that these are now all 20+ year old cars, so don’t expect 2017 reliability.
With money thrown at them, the stock long block is good for a reliable 300hp. Just remember that the cost of quality parts adds up quick. Aftermarket support has dropped off a bit over the recent years as tuners migrate to newer platforms (Evos, STis). But you can still get whatever parts you need and there is enough information on the forums to address anything from basic maintenance to trying to build a 2.4L 1000hp dragster.
The real weakness is handling and weight. Sure, you can gut the interiors and upgrade most of the suspension components. But there are limits to what you can achieve. If autocrossing or track days are in your future plans, you might want to consider an SW20 instead.
The AWD models are solid in the snow, with ground clearance typically being the limiting factor given winter tires. AWD also helps quite a bit with launching if your goal is to build a drag car.
Overall great cars. I miss mine, but I am old now and don’t have the free time to tinker with cars like I used to.
