I opted to leave original stud in. When I stacked nuts, they didn’t lock, but the first nut just spun the second. So I’ll cleaned the threads with the nuts, backed off then put the gasket on, then put rear gasket on and locktighted the 3 bolts for the rear.

Thats after the 3 bolts are all tightened down and I mean tight. My option I guess is to double stack a gasket and see if that seals it. If that doesn’t work, taking the converter off, and tapping on edges to see if I can bend the flange so it’s not concave. If that doesn’t work I guess I’ll get a belt sander and try to essentially mill the surface flat

I’m going to clean up then go for a test drive. So far no CEL when before when I reset it, it came on immediately. I’m hoping the tires will pass safety inspection, but I may have a line on another set on CL. Cross your fingers.

Besides that light being ON on the dash you can’t even tell I did work to it. Frustrating when there isn’t a visible or audible reward for the efforts put forth.

Before you go crazy maybe heat cycle it and re-tighten.

Looks great though! I loathe working with rusty exhaust fasteners.

I don’t think I’ll do anything yet, I’ll try Ron we if that it’ll pass testing so I can renew the plates for 2 more years. Then see what to do. If they fail me for this leaking, with it being new they may look at it closely, I’ll have to fix right away.

It’s always best to fix for inspection the week before it expires. Because I bought the converter in April and waited until now to put it on.

You can also try remflex gaskets. I’ve had mixed success with them. They are a compressible deformable gasket, but once you torque them down, they’re not reusable. I use them successfully on my headers, but the collector gaskets didn’t do it for me. I have had good luck copper gaskets and high temp copper RTV as well. Looks like crap, but it seals.

This one is what came with the converter. Looked to be thick enough. I’ll price out the ones you mentioned. For now the hard part is done.

In all it wasn’t too bad. A lot of up & down. Since my driveway is a hill I had a couple sockets roll away. I didn’t even touch it Saturday. Just Friday after work and Sunday. Maybe 8-9 hours not really including hardware store runs.

Worst part is when using that brush on the dremel the pieces break off then I roll over them and get them injected into my back or side when rolling around.
