Sometimes I wonder if I should have gotten a 1M instead of my M3

Kinja'd!!!

I really like these things , I test drove one back in Feburary and it only added to my want. It was like driving a manual version of my dad’s car. They were about the same price back in 2014 as what I paid for my M3. I mean I could have gotten one, driven it for 3 years and sold it for about what I paid for it, then gotten an E90 M3.

I see one in Valencia Orange every once in a while. It’s probably my favorite modern BMW. Looks like a Staffie in car form.

That is a pretty fantastic color. Personally, I’d go for alpine white because an alpine white E46 M3 was what got me into cars.

You should not have, seeing as the M3 is superior in every way

They’re both fantastic cars, I’ve had my M3 for 3 years now and I’ve driven a 1M before. They’re just differnt, the M3 a high revving V8 and the 1M a turbo I6. My dad has a 135is, and it’s basically a 1M lite, I really enjoy driving it, despite the DCT.

I will say one of my high school friends put it perfectly: you always wanted an M3 so get one of those.

I wanted an alpine white E90 so bad, but I could never find one. I wanted to get an AW E92 as my DD, but I couldn’t find one either.

But does a 1m have a 8,500 rpm redline? No. Therefore it’s the better car. Though I don’t blame you for thinking about 1m’s

*8300 RPM red line. I’ve hit fuel cut off several times.

They’re different. The 1M has all this low down torque; keep the M3 above 5k RPM and it is extremely quick. You have to be in the right gear in the M3. That said, it pulls hard in any gear, along as it’s above 3500 PRM.

It’s very quick for something with very little torque (lol, it has more torque than the horsepower and torque figures of my mini combined). But 295lbs/ft if that’s right, isn’t that much

You’re correct, it only has 295 ft/lbs. Once you get moving though, it doesn’t feel down on power, once you get it above you can keep it in the right gear to take advantage of the rev range.

Watch this video, I don’t think the 1M can do that...

Unless low end grunt that tapers off at 6000 RPM is your thing, you made the right choice. Honestly the M3 ‘s engine is special becuase it is a screamer. The 1M missed on that front. Same with the most recent M2. The 1M would be a fun car for ~6 months, but I think I would have ended at the M3 anyway.
