Kinja'd!!!

Yesterday was the 13th Japanese Classic Car Show at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. I hadn’t been in a few years and it sure has grown, and gotten expensive. My Subaru 360 won the very first “Best of Subaru” back in 2005. There was only one other Subaru, but we were better than it. Here are some of my faves from this year. It was a pretty interesting turnout. There’s always more than tuner cars. And, Mazda was there celebrating 40 years of the Rotary.

That little Honda kei truck is AWESOME! Always loved kei rides :)

What’s the nifty little red fella after the Cosmos?

Yeah, that little truck is fantastic. And they were well made. Built like a real truck.

The red car is a MK II Corolla in impeccable condition. The vinyl roof kind of makes it.

Nice to see some kind of stock. I think I recall seeing a Prelude cabrio conversion once.

Sundowner :)

I imagine trying to find parts for that little Honda is NOT easy, haha!

I was surprised at how many nicely maintained stock cars there were. They’re great to see. I think some company made a bunch of those convertible Preludes because I’ve seen them before, too.

That’s what always comes to mind when I hear, “Sundowner.” I remember the commercials well.

What: No Be-1????

Great line up of cars you get here. Really love the skiing guy on that Tercel. Winners here are the 117 and the Cosmo.

Already done showing Euro stuff? ;-)

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
09/25/2017 at 21:34, STARS: 1

No, no Be-1. Blasphemy, I know. Everyone forgets about the Be-1. That’s what makes it special.

This show always gets good stuff. That 117 was so pretty. Great color, too.

I may have one or two photos left from Europe to share. We’ll see. And Mademoiselle LNA arrives in New Jersey on Thursday. Did I mention that?

09/26/2017 at 03:29, STARS: 1

Forget? I hardly know people knowing it in the first place! Thursday next week it’s off to the DMV! With a leaky roof.

The green suits the 117 perfectly. I’d prefer the wheels a tad smaller though.

Are you having the guy picking it up taking pictures of the process? It just left Nova Scotia!

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
09/26/2017 at 13:32, STARS: 1

Exactly. The Be-1 is an enigma. How long is it going to take to get the new roof? It doesn’t rain that often there anyway. You probably have a few weeks left where you can drive it with the roof open.

Smaller wheels? I’ve never heard you call for smaller wheels. But, you might be right. Just a tad smaller.

I don’t know who is going to get it at the port. Some random guy with a truck. But, I’ll get photos of it unloading in Connecticut. It’s in the home stretch now. I just had to call Michel because I never got the bill of lading, but I think we have it worked out.

The roof is made to order so that will take a while. Gerard has worked out a way to keep things dry for the trip to the DMV. With tape. Not on the body but on the glass. Hmmm...

I’m all about period correct. There were no 15" wheels for these back then. Not with these tires.

What? No bill of lading? I’d expect Michel to send’m to you directly? Who has the bill now?

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
09/26/2017 at 21:22, STARS: 1

Hmm indeed. What glass is he going to tape it to? Glass is one thing tape will stick to, but then you’re going to have tape residue on your window. Make sure you have some Goo Gone.

That car especially should be period correct. But, those wheels are acceptable to me if the original wheels are unavailable. But, if you can afford to have that car in America, you can get the right wheels. I know who owns it. He has a big collection of interesting stuff, so I’m surprised he doesn’t have the right wheels on it.

I assume Michel still has the bill of lading. I don’t know why. He said he’d get me a copy tomorrow, so I guess he’ll scan it and email it to me which means he must not have sent it, I think. But, he did say he spoke to Wallenius & Wilhelmsen about releasing the car which is what I would need the bill for. We’ll see what happens. Like I said, the paperwork was more confusing this time around. I don’t know if it’s the broker I picked, but in the past I just gave the customs broker the shipping info. and then they did everything and I just picked the car up. At least, that’s how I remember it.

The rear-side windows. The rear sides are the only parts that are loose. I hope it doesn’t rain next Thursday.

I’ve gotten the 3rd parking next to the house btw. Hahaha. Krista just nodded her head when I told her...

I have no idea what happened here! Better write everything down for when I get you that Samba Rallye!

Universal Exports! I want his rank as well. Commander.

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)

Wasn’t Universal Exports a cover up? We need ranks in our Wanke r l factory!

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
09/30/2017 at 23:05, STARS: 1

It was. I guess he was only a commander in the Army? Or, is he a commander in M5? I thought the 00 designated his rank.

Can I be a commodore?

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)
10/01/2017 at 16:59, STARS: 1

Commander is a Naval rank in the UK. Or the Air force but Bond was a navy dude. I think. And that double 0 is for his permission/license to kill. You should know that!

You can be a Commodore. I’ll be an Amiga.

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
10/01/2017 at 22:13, STARS: 1

Oh, right. He was in the Royal Navy Reserve. Well, there’s a Double-0 Section which I figure is kind of like a rank. Like those are the special super spies. I think the license to kill comes with being a 00.

Perfect. Now we need a Tandy TRS-80 which you probably didn’t get over there.

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)
10/02/2017 at 05:38, STARS: 1

Yeah the Elite were the double-0's. But your license to kill can still be revoked!

Tandy wasn’t a hit over here. But we got ‘m. Commodore64 and MSX’s were the main players.

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
10/02/2017 at 21:37, STARS: 1

But, then wouldn’t your 00 status also be revoked? What’s the next level down? Single-0, or no 0's?

I always wanted a Tandy because I liked the games. Or an Amiga because everyone talked about how cool they were. My first computer was an Apple IIc and it’s been Macs ever since.

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)
10/03/2017 at 04:13, STARS: 1

You really have to read License to Kill, to much questions! Also on the levels: I just know the lowest level was a no-no .

I always wanted a C64. Had it. Enjoyed it to the fullest. Then the Amiga came on the market. And I swapped to the darkside. MS DOS.

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
10/03/2017 at 22:36, STARS: 1

Licence to Kill wasn’t based on a book, though. I’ll have to check my James Bond encyclopedia. Or rewatch the movie. It’s not one of my favorites, though. I just like the part where they reference James’s wife from my favorite movie.

We were a little late to the home computer thing relatively. So, I missed the C64. That computer’s a legend. One of my nerdy friends had one and it blew my mind.

The Title wasn’t from a novel by Fleming. They combined several elements of Fleming stories though, did you ever read the  For your eyes Only book? That’s not just the story that was turned into a movie but multiple short stories and several elements come from The Hildebrand Rarity in that. Also an angle from the Man with the Golden Gun novel. Still don’t get your love for On her Majesty’s Secret Service . Hilly!!!

It blew my mind as well. Paperboy. Pit Stop II. Blue Max. Who Dares Wins II. Did you ever try the C64 emulator? Not sure if it works on Apple, probably not ;-)

10/04/2017 at 23:59, STARS: 1

I never read the short story book, no. Do they go over all the license to kill rules in the story or stories? I thought they took a couple stories for the plot of the movie. I love Hilly. Somehow the voice thing works. I just think that’s a great movie. It’s got action, romance, tragedy, intrigue. I’d like it regardless of it being a Bond film.

I’ve never tried it. I should see if they have it for my computer. There’s enough people with Macs now that they should have it, right?

I’ve learnt this fact from my neighbor actually. No idea how he knew this, it was way before License to Kill was in the Theatre.

Every movie in which Mrs. Peel dies sucks. Period.

Oh, well, he sounds like an authority. Was his name Ian Fleming?

It’s definitely a downer of an ending, but she was living on borrowed time. She really died in the first scene.

Wow. There’s even a License to Kill game. I didn’t realize the C64 was around that long.
