I played a lot of Command and Conquer back in the day. It was popular globally as well. People from our online community have had similar stories. Stuck on the wrong side of an actual war, health issues, death, homelessness, etc. Weird thing is that you almost never know their real name.

Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer FPS game with different playable characters that have their own special abilities. Heavy carries around a Minigun, and the Doctor heals people and can briefly make people invincible (uber). Heavy and Doc is probably the best combo in the game since Doc can make Heavy uber and he can charge into battle with his Minigun firing away without taking any shots.

It was always weird to know a lot about a person, but we only knew each other by our screennames. I’ll never forget some of these people as they shipped off to war, had family and job situations change, or went through medical treatment that left them too ill to play. But maybe it’s easier when you only know each other by a word, and not a name. The ventrilo chat room became a welcoming sight as you saw the same names file in at night. Sess, Fred, Mav, SG-Parade, Human, Sauce, Oh-So, and others.

Man....so many feels....And so much nostalgia just now.
