Assuming the throttle was stuck?

Don’t most of these have manual transmissions?

Plowed all the way through the emergency ramp. I’m not even mad, that’s impressive. That driver still should get his CDL suspended with extreme prejudice, though.

Brakes faded on a long grade. As they pass by some places you can appreciate how steep it is. Hell, watch the inside of the trailer tires and you can see the fire.

I wonder who dropped the ball on brake system maintenance here. Owner-operator? Fleet?

Must of had a Toyota floor mat. Putting it in neutral is hard.

Joking aside, I wonder what happened? Stuck throttle, runaway diesel, etc. still wouldn’t explain why it couldn’t be put in neutral, regardless of transmission. He was definitely trying one way to stop it and cooked the brakes in the process.

SOP should be to slow down at the top of the hill and downshift, going down the grade using engine braking. No amount of preventative maintenance can survive a driver riding the brakes on a fast, steep slope.

Gravity. Gravity happened. The brakes are actually on fire at 3:06. They don’t put runaway truck ramps in places like Kansas.

Yep, I’m guessing he didn’t slow down enough at the top and got to the point were he couldn’t woah it down completely at all. Got to the point where it was either upshift or blow the engine and lose engine braking entirely.

but bonus points for apexing like a boss until he reached the runaway ramp.

I didn’t see any significant uphill. From my time in the mountains of California, this looks to be on par with the Grapevine. Though the video in Mexico. Because it is seriously steep, 5+% easily at parts.

1:25ish on. Camera is pointing up towards the sky, then it levels off, and then they start downhill again. 3:00 on is also uphill.

Yeah, American style vehicles + European style highway + Spanish was the key giveaways. Plus, the roads look too good to be in the US

Someone found the actual location, looking at the topo map, no uphill at all for the 9kM leading to it.
