Kinja'd!!!

Pickedup a set of roof bars on eBay and a sweet sweet used Thule box for the ZXW.

The fit isn’t perfect though. How far forward can I push it without becoming an Opponaut for real?

And yes, any further forward and I’ll be on my 4th antenna. This one a stubby.

I’ve got that exact box. You can push it as far forward as you need to. When I got mine it was mounted on a much shorter car (MK6 Golf R) with no issues.

Had the SkyBox21 up top on the Forester, It was awesome when we needed it with the kids. Killed mpg but made up for it in stroller capacity..

Thanks for sharing. I’m just concerned I’m going to create lift on the highway. I’m expecting a mpg hit but I think it’s worth it for keeping the skis out of the cabin.

We are just about 100% done with strollers, but I think this thing may hold a small bike, at least a balance bike. And skis. And long stuff from Home Depot. And it gives the ZXW a little personality. Goes a step further towards adventure wagon from econowagon.

Losing mpg’s is ineveitable, but it’s well worth it IMO and it’s not that huge of a hit. I don’t want skis in my car...they’re dirty and take up a lot of space. Especially since we always stop at the grocery store on the way back to the cabin from the slopes. Having a box to hold the skis, poles, boards and boots is simply wonderful.

The nice thing is when you are done with it you turn around and sell it for what you paid.

Kinja'd!!!

I just picked up the same box earlier this year for a family road trip. Getting one of these had been on my wish-list for some time now and I am glad I was finally able to pull the trigger on one. So far the hardest part for me (aside from actually finding a reasonable deal on one) was finding somewhere to keep it when not in use. These things are so much bigger in person than they look sitting up on top of a car. So after taking up an unreasonable amount of space in my garage for longer than I care to admit, I eventually managed to wedge it into my attic. Now I just hope that I’ll actually be able to get it back out in time for the next road trip.

I made a pulley on the garage wall to get mine up and out of the way. I usually kept it on most of the summer and in the garage for the winter. Pro tip; 303 makes these shine like new- after 4 years we sold it on to the next family and it looked better than the day we brought it home.

I was thinking this would be a great thing to dip.
