Actttuuaaallly they’re called core plugs, because they’re used for removing particulate from the casting process.

yup its to keep the freeze out. Without freeze plugs freeze can just come pouring into the engine and swamp it...with freeze.

It’s not really that big of a problem. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL. Restart the engine and all is well again. No more freeze

Only downside is that you may have lost the distance traversed. But everyone knows you should save your progress at save check points
