Volvo has been pretty on the ball with turning their concepts into actual models. If you give them enough money, maybe we can have this.

Am I the only one that thinks the Chinese purchase of Volvo has actually been a great thing on the design side? Just look at their cars today, in my mind they are some of the most desirable cars on the market.

Nope, I 100% agree. Geely has been pretty hands off with it, and it seems like they went “here’s money, make us money and we’re all good”. Looks to be working out really well.

I suspect profitability isn’t even in the strategy yet. They are still about (re)building brand equity and making themselves known. I doubt there is a profit yet, but there could be in time. Geely is doing it right, hands-off.

Yup. At the auto show this year, the Volvo booth was crawling with people. My dad is pretty seriously looking at an XC60. And I’ve been seeing plenty of new Volvos around. I’m pretty excited to see where it goes.

They are definitely getting sharper. I just wonder if they’ll pull a Lexus and raise prices after this honeymoon period - some of the models actually seem to be a little too low-priced to be true, compared to the competition.

That’s exactly how I imagine the future. Eventually, pricing closer to the Germans. Even if Geely doesn’t make much of a profit, they might also keep it going just for the bragging rights of a premium brand.

Alternatively, they use Volvo’s reputation to try to get other brands into the North American market. That could also be a good strategy.
