Yes, the update temporarily bricked my device. Yes, I backed up my device before attempting to update it. Everything got recovered since I backed up right before attempting the update, but there was a bit of concern.

I live dangerously. The only thing I’m gonna lose is pictures nobody should be seeing anyway

There are two types of computer users: those who have lost data, and those who will lose data.

Are you taking about the iOS 11 update? I rarely if ever use iTunes any more, but I always to a complete backup to iTunes before updating our phones. I don’t trust the cloud to keep everything.

Yep, iOS 11. Something borked in my first attempt to update and it looked like my phone was bricked. After restarting my computer (?) I was able to factory reset / update / restore the phone with no loss of anything.

In related news, once I had an update fail and require a reset of the phone. I had forgotten to do a fresh backup that time so lost a week or so worth of pictures.

Let us know what you think of the OS. I am not an early adopter. I’ll wait a couple of weeks before updating. The new Safari 11 is out also. Haven’t updated that yet either.

The other night I told my phone to update my apps and the damn thing bricked.

An iOS 10.x update did that to my phone and I did back up mostly everything except my photos which I backup manually via Photos on my Mac. I hadn’t backed up my photos in months. I thought I lost all my pictures I was TIGHT. But turns out these phones are not easy to brick and though it looked bricked (plug into iTunes logo) when it finally completed the update via iTunes everything was normal and all my pictures were still there. Now I’m super diligent about backing up my photos.
