But every time Clarkson, Hammond, and May go to Africa, it ends up making really good television. Botswana special, Africa special, Namibia special (excluding the rather slow first half hour or so which was basically there to make it a two parter), all of those have been some of my favourite episodes of their respective shows. I have no doubts that the upcoming Grand Tour episode in Mozambique will be good too.

Every special is a good one, IMO. There are bits that I dislike (overly fake bits to up the excitement), but in general, I do love all the specials.

The Bolivia one is up there, too. Really, all of these kinds of trips are what I like most about the show, and my wife always likes these, too. It’s not so much about the cars, it’s just good entertainment.
On the one above, every time I see it I laugh unreasonably hard when Clarkson asks Hammond about the Black Cock gin or whatever spirit. Their exchange is priceless, if completely contrived, because it’s so deadpan. I’d google it but I fear for the results, especially on my work computer.

But the Namibia special was shit. Surely I wasn’t the only one who thought it was one episode of pure filler, and a second episode filled with overly contrived attempts at humor that backfired miserably.
LeBlanc Top Gear is lightyears more entertaining than TGT.

The India Special is the one where they get the assignment to do the food deliveries, right? And the whole train thing with the banner? It wasnt bad? The part where they’re driving at night (maybe Im mixing up two specials here) was pretty crazy.
