It’s been said before and I’ll say it again: Acura needs to bring the CL back!

Kinja'd!!!

A modern version should have the option of SH-AWD — an A-spec, if you will.

Someone please buy this because I’m to broke to do so. And it pains me that it’s in my town.

They just nuked the Accord Coupe, and the Integra/RSX died tragically years ago. I don’t think Acura has a luxury coupe in their future.

Coupes are now four door fastback crossovers, so the new CL would have been the ZDX:

Kinja'd!!!

It has SH-AWD, too.

Which was canceled after 2 model years.

Still 1000x better than the Honda Accord Crosstour.

Kinja'd!!!

ETA: if I’m not mistaken, the ZDX had an automatic while the Crosstour came with a CVT

On a more serious note, it is a bit sad to not see something like the CL in the lineup. For a while you could argue that an Accord coupe EX-L filled the gap, but that is gone now. The problem is that the 2nd generation CL got a bad reliability reputation because it ate automatic transmissions. Of course pretty much all Honda V6 vehicles from that era did the same thing, but as I remember the CL specifically had an issue with transmissions running hot and warping gears before 50k miles that lead to a recall. When you add that to the limited market that a coupe fills it kinda tarnished the CL nameplate. I don’t blame them for not bringing it back for a while. In the meantime, the FWD coupe market has completely collapsed, taken over by RWD-based models that span both sporty and luxury depending on option packages like the Mustang and 4-Series while Honda has nothing in their lineup or pipeline to compete. A 2-door version of the TLX would be cool, but I don’t see it happening.

TBH, we need the S2000 back more than even a Integra/RSX or Prelude

Also this.

Probably would have to be based on the RL(X) tho

I used to have an ‘02 TL Type-S. It had the same recall that was thankfully done in advance of my purchase. At 210k miles, the engine was still buttery smooth and so was the tranny.

I still miss it.

I’m ok with this. But it’s gonna be crazy expensive new.

I agree, though Acura is too busy just trying to stay competitive in their segment. A luxury coupe isn’t usually the way to accomplish competitiveness. Luxury coupes are usually losers (financially speaking).

That is true, but what they really need to do is bring back the 3rd gen TL with the following upgrades

- 3.7L instead of 3.2L

- SH-AWD to address the torque steer and other front wheel driveness

- Offer it in 6 spd manual and the new 8(?) speed auto from the current TLX

- 18" alloys standard

- Higher res nav

- Other various cheap upgrades like aux and bluetooth audio to keep it on par with modern cars

Kinja'd!!!

I wish they would, because when my TL dies thats where my money would go immediately.

Maybe not crazy expensive but at least BRZ expensive and then why not get RWD for free? The honda i4 is vastly superior though so thats true.

Infiniti out acura-ed acura a long time ago and acura just keeps grasping at straws until it hopefully finds a hit. I think the new TLX grill is a step in the right direction, but they need to market the fact that with SH-AWD they dont feel like FWD cars at all.

Wait, a 4th gen from 2010-2014 6MT isn’t good enough?

Its great in almost every way, but it will never look as good as a third gen and will always feel (and look) larger. Im not dumb though I admit that the fourth gen is better in 90% of ways.

Yeah, basically proof that cars got bigger.

The TL-based CL was approaching Legend Coupe size already.
