Kinja'd!!!

And out of the gate it’s a load of hokey.

********** SPOILERS FOR ROAD TEST THAT ONLY ACTUALLY MATTER TO NUTS LIKE ME WHO GET ERECT ON THIS SHIT ***********

The C7 Grand Sport is 7th. The 570GT is 9th, below the LC500. The new 911 GT3 is nowhere to be found; same as the Ford GT and Huracan Performante, but there’s still an R35 this year and it sucked dick. God above, just who won this test? The 911 Turbo? The Ferrari? The Camaro? THE CAMARO?!

I’ve been cursorily following it, and they alleged they couldn’t get a Ford GT, which sounds like a load of crap to me. The 570GT shouldn’t be so far down, as it’s mathematically not that far off from a regular 570.

The ferrari 5somethingNumberAlphabetSoup apparently won, which is a surprise because in past years Motor Trend may as well have just called themselves “GM’s Advertising Magazine” and I was expecting them to find some BS excuse to name the Camaro as #1. Then again we know the power Ferrari has over traditional press outlets...

Any test where the greatest car sold this year gets 7th place is complete crap, anyway.

Apparently Randy hates Corvettes, so that automatically disqualifies it.

Not the Camaro, it came 4th.

I agree though, it’s been a completely illogical shit show so far.

If you knew the stuff I knew about this rag, you wouldn’t subscribe. R&T and C&D are far better. You know why Pobst is there? Because the editors crashed so many cars the automakers stopped letting them drive on track. The writing is good, visuals are great, but the GM dick sucking and lying to their readers is where I had it.

The Camaro didn’t win, but I don’t know why that would have been a surprise? It’s a track monster , it should be considered. Oh right, I forgot, Oppo hates anything that isn’t 2000 pounds and completely gutless.

The least sense is the LC500. It’s not a drivers car, period, yet it was included and placed above much better and faster cars. Even the whole review of it was “it understeers a whole lot” yet it placed higher than the McLaren.

Oppo also loves cars that are used and can be had for 50 pounds of butter chicken in lieu of money.

What good is the “Best Driver’s Car” if almost no one can actually afford to buy it?

Maybe the MT guys will take price into account one of these years.

What is the point of awarding a best anything if you worry about price?

It’s not “the best value drivers car”, it’s just the best.

I guessed the AMG GT-R would come in first with the ZL1 1LE in second.

Probably because they couldn’t get their hands on a gt or a gt3, given limited production. As such, I’m ok not including them.

No, Oppo hates GM because they’re stuck in an old thought process and can’t accept when s company betters themselves.

See this is why I think C&D has done well with 10Best. They cap the price of the cars that are eligible. The reasoning is simple: If you are going to spend $75K+ on a car, it’s going to be good objectively by some measure, so it’s tautological to reward them for what they ought to be giving you anyway.

Put a cap on it at, say, $100K, and then see what your best drivers cars are.

Both are very good. I’ve got a standard SS 1LE on order because I don’t want to pay that kind of money for a ZL1 1LE (although thanks to all the Silverado and Equinox buyers who are subsidizing development!).

It reminds me of one of the old Top Gear News segments where they were aghast that the Fiat 500 got named “Car of the Year.” Cpt. Slow then remarked:

But, why?

If C&D does it why does Motortrend need to? Everyone does some version of the “Best Car/Best Driver Car/Lightning Lap/Most Vroomie” test, and the variation between them is good.

What makes a “best driver’s car” is ultimately subjective anyways. A lot of people would immediately rule out most of MT’s list for lack of a manual transmission. That being said, affordability is also subjective. A $100,000 car to me might be in the same realm of affordability as a $30,000 car to someone else.

I want the best driver’s car to be accessible to most people. Telling someone that the best driver’s car is a Ferrari SomethingOrAnother is pointless to everyone who cannot afford a Ferrari SomethingOrAnother.

Otherwise you’d just have a rotating group of Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Sure they are excellent cars. They also don’t sell many of them, because relatively few people can a) afford them or b) choose to buy them.

That’s why things like the Miata and the GT-86 are important. It’s why the Mustang and the Camaro are important. It’s why cheap sports cars are important.

The average transaction price for new cars in the US is around $35,000. Doubling that to capture things within a reasonable reach of the average purchaser gives $70K.

If you are looking at a price tag north of $70K, you aren’t looking at what most people consider affordable.

tl;dr - I don’t need Randy Pobst to tell me that if I spend $400K on a car, that it’s going to be good.

I guess I differ in that opinion because the only way I’ll know how the 6 figure cars drive is by reading these articles and watching these videos.

If I want to decide if a Miata RF is more of a driver’s car than a Camaro SS I’ll just go test drive them both. I don’t need Randy Pobst to tell me that a Miata is fun, I can just experience it for myself.

Cammisa doesn’t need to work at all. He sold a publicly traded tech company for millions of dollars before becoming an auto journalist.
