My first non-car related post. This is just something I felt like I had to share. I just pulled $300+ worth of nerf guns and a basketball hoop from a neighbor’s old trash (they moved), heres what I got:

And finally, the smallest and most expensive thing on my list:

Kinja'd!!!

Why the heck does a nerf pistol cost $150?

It’s been out of production for 7 years, but still. The mod guys don’t like it ‘cause it’s a cast iron bitch to open and play with the internals, and the autoload system eats darts like crazy. Sounds like some sellers trying to fleece people.

This is the only Nerf weapon that should cost $150:

This is now a greatest trash finds thread.

One of my roommates found and X-box 360 left in the trash from the previous renters, we plugged it in and it worked fine, that was probably 4 years ago, he still has it.

I found three aluminum rims in a dumpster, pulled them out and scrapped them for about $50.

My college town had “junk days” where you drop your shit at the curb, anyone can dig through it and take what they want, then the city picks it up at the end of the week. It’s exactly as redneck and trashy as it sounds, but it’s an awesome way to kill some time with friends and find some cool stuff. On the list of things I have acquired: boating tube, an old metal storage cabinet, brand new skiis for a snowmobile/custom project, I feel like there’s a lot more that’s missing, but those are the things that I still have and work fine. On the list of things I/my friends have acquired; 50" tv (the older non flat screen but still great for a broke college kit, it just needed a little adjustment and it worked great) multiple grills, file cabinets, a second boat tube, many many bicycles, neon signs from Quiznos (one worked, the other half worked), a desk that I used for multiple years, and again many things that I’m sure I’m not remembering.

So, they hate their kids? Or they’ve outgrown this stuff and they hate poor people’s kids? Not hard to drop a load off at Goodwill...

‘Tis not real, sadly. The Nerf Davy Crockett was a ThinkGeek April Fools gag product from 2014.

My town use to have something like that. My uncle use to pick up cheap little snow blowers all the time. Usually you would go through and clean the carbs out and they would run. Then when the first snow fell he’d put them out for sale. His new thing is fixing flat screen tv’s he finds at the town dump. Usually there is one minor thing burned out so he fixes them and now he has flatscreens all over the place. I once found some old mans fastener collection. A whole box full of nuts, bolts, washers, cotter pins, ect. I’ve been picking parts out to fix things for 10 years now.

Anyone who spends that kind of money on a nerf gun needs to be shot with a real one. I’ve purchased actual firearms for $150.

Just recently, I found a small wire shelf, a lamp, a 4x12 crate guitar cabinet (!) and....a Canon printer. All from the same place spanning maybe 3 weeks.

Everything was in great condition - even the guitar cabinet. I have no idea why that was tossed out but it pairs up ncely with my amp head :)

It’s pretty crazy what some people throw out, I’ve seen a lot of perfectly good, or serviceable things thrown to the curb just because people don’t want to mess with it. I used to work at a hardware store with a small engine shop and people would bring in old mowers, buy a new one, and just leave the old one. I got a couple year old Troy Bilt with a Honda engine on it for free that way, only thing missing was the bagger, which I didn’t want anyway. I got a Honda riding mower from my uncle for $100 because he said it was having trouble going up hills. Sure the belt slips a little in high gears on steep hills, but it mows my yard just fine and runs great.

Now, I know the twins who’s stuff this was, but I haven’t met their parents. So I can’t really comment on their relationship

Ya I can afford to buy most of the things I need but I really hate waste so I’ll fix, modify, and reuse whenever I can. Most of the fittings in my shop were built out of the junk I have lying around

Same here, it’s a delicate balance though between saving useful things, and keeping worthless junk. My dad for example, likes to keep bits of leftover board from various projects, just in case. I think this is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, and I do it myself too, but sometimes I have to stop him (or me) and say, “yeah, it’s nice to have some scrap board, but do we really need 10, 15, 30 - 12" long 2x4's?”

When it comes to fasteners/fittings etc, I absolutely keep all the old (but good) ones that I can, but only if I can keep them at least mildly organized.

I do the same thing. The guy I bought my house from though saved everything. I’ve been throwing out particle board scraps for years and just found ALL the original trim from the house at the bottom of the last wood pile. Guy was practically a hoarder. I threw out 4 vacuums, just kept finding them.

Got shot in the eye with a nerf gun during a nerf war in my house. Woke up with a blind spot in my vision. Went to the hospital, turns out it tore part of my retina, and if it had been just a few degrees elsewhere I would have had a retinal detachment and gone blind in that eye. So they lasered it back together.

That was all within the three days before my nineteenth birthday.

2. You were having Nerf Wars at 19? What were you, a frat boy?

Yup. Learn from my mistakes, just as all the laughing doctors and nurses did.

Well, 18, because we stopped the Nerf battles when I had to go to the hospital. And nope, I lived with seven friends in a house together, so we knew how to have a good time. Such as Risk night.
