I decided to roll the dice on reinstalling the roll pin and throwing some new 80-90 in... It didn’t go well. Time for a new ring and pinion/bearings. It sounds like backlash or pinion depth was very much affected by the center pin smashing into the pinion.

Would it be easier to swap in a complete axle?

Don’t forget to check your carrier case for cracks or damage.

I saw the tooth damage, but I guess it also smacked hard enough to affect the case, reset a bearing race, bend the pinion shaft, bend the carrier, *break* a bearing, or any number of Very Bad Things like that.

If it weren’t for the non-stock gear ratio, it would be.

Would it be worth while to get another housing and build that, while original housing gets used. If you have other cars there isn’t a need for this.
I bent my Dana 30 from jumping and the axle shafts were rubbing the tubes.
I removed the shafts, removed U-joints and replaced stubby shafts to wheel bearings. Got me home.

It’s a second vehicle that barely gets driven as it is. It’s just gonna get parked for a while. :(
