I’m sure it’s cheaper to park the plane in Massachusetts than in NYC when the UN General Session is meeting.

You may actually be on to something. We’re only a half hour away by air, and flight history does have it landing in New York yesterday afternoon then flying up here in the evening

And you might wonder if its a security thing. Would you want to have your aircraft parked at a facility where a terrorist hit could threaten many of them or scatter the planes about at various regional facilities?

Clean. Elegant. Not on the level of a Loewy, but not bad.

Wait until sweeping day and all the airplanes move to the other side of the runway.

Looks like it needs a hockey stick. Good looking livery, though.

I didn’t realize you guys even had transport planes like that, I thought the “hair shirt” mentality pushed by the tabloids meant commercial flights for everyone.

For large official tours they use one of the Voyagers. If it’s just a group of ten or so, they’ll use commercial flights.

There are two Voyagers for VIP use, but any of the other Voyagers can be configured to accept the seating should the other two be out of service.

All the Voyagers are transport and refueling tanker aircraft. So unlike Air Force One, these do other duties to earn their keep.

The Royal family have some aircraft and helicopters for short hops and flights within the U.K.

Yes, just looked it up, had no idea they did the VIP refit. Always thought it a bit odd that a country like the UK didn’t have a dedicated transport for head of state/head of government use, when so many smaller countries manage to maintain them (see Slovakia, above). I think the UK was the only G7 country without one (and might still technically be, given that the planes are owned by a private company and leased out when not needed).

The government were trying to get as much bang for their buck and a quick delivery of units. Leasing works out more expensive than buying outright but it guarantees them aircraft maintenance and aircraft availability.

With the whole austerity issue, our government is always being held accountable for how it spends the tax payers money.

I guess you guys haven’t figured out how to just trick the Chinese and Japanese into lending you whatever you want.

It works out fantastically well, they still haven’t caught on to the fact that we won’t ever be able to pay them back.

We have some Chinese investors but that is mostly in financing. Investing in the military is a tax payer thing with most of our stuff either being British, Anglo-European or Anglo-American and kept away from Chinese issues.
