My (and all) Ram 1500 4X4 has electric power steering. Hrm. I just figured it being a truck would have old school hydraulic.

Kinja'd!!!

That explains the lack of feel lololol

In a perfect world all trucks still have manual steering leaf springs and carburetors because technology scares me

With my power steering on the Willys, I can use my pinky finger for all my steering inputs. Is amazing.

Kind of unrelated, but that picture is interesting - what’s with the little fins just below and to the left of the steering input? A small heat sink? Would something that small even make a negligible difference?

Fun fact: the Frieghtliner Cascadia actually attached the rack to the front axle:

I like the coil springs, it rides a LOT better unladen than the F-150 I drove.

If I want to be confused with an Uber again, I’ll take the wife’s Durango.

Bet I could fit that in the wagon.....

Lol removing inefficient systems for better alternatives is a goal I hope to complete one day.

The power steering pump and the AC compressor are the big candidates. I already swapped the engine driven clutch fan for and electric one.

You have a Ram and a Durango?

Excellent.

Same for the light duty F-150, the snow plow package, or HD tow/haul packege upgrade the rack to a hydronic. At least for Ford

2014+ 1500 GMs are electric rack and pinion too. I was shocked that my ‘10 Silverado is hydraulic rack and pinion. I guess I just assume steering box when I think truck.

Yes. And they are.

I would like to know why there is no Durango icon option for the nav though.

I think Ram/Dodge was the first to put a rack and pinion in a full size truck. Even the 4WDs had them in 2002.

Yup pretty funny considering when I was a kid my Dad’s plow truck was a ram 1500 with a 6 cylinder, and it got the job done for about 12 years. Until we moved and he gave it to some one who needed a plow truck

The shareholders would burn me at the stake if we had a recall right now.

Tell you what. Just enable nav, and cut and paste a durango onto the screen over what ever is there.

That’s all we’d do anyway.

I know the 07-13 GMs were the first to get rack and pinion on both 4WD and 2WD but I think (think) 99-07 2WDs got them.

The Rams do ride nicely. I never loaded up the one I had for a week. The Sierra we have at work didn’t ride too bad stock but the leafs sagged a lot even with only 50% of max payload in the bed so we added air springs in the rear. Ride is horrible unless you have a couple hundred pounds in the bed. But you don’t look like a dolphin when you drive around with a load either so that’s nice.
