Yesterday at C&C I was talking to the owner of a VIP 1998 Toyota Century, he was showing me the trunk. It was smaller then Ithought for a car of its size, but still a good size.

Kinja'd!!!

So I asked if it had pass though storage, it does not. The gas tank between the rear seat & trunk. The wool seats are also insanely comfy too.

Pass through is for plebs

Ah, but does it have the pass-through on the front passenger seat so that the VIP in the back can stretch out his legs? I recall some high-end Toyota having this feature, but this one looks long enough not to need that.

I’ve wanted a Second Gen Century since the first time I saw one one in the late noughties.. V12, a plethora of comfort whilst not looking like a douche that everyone in a newish Rolls-Royce or Bentley does. Similar thing when it comes to the Nissan President.

Will the V12 fit in my MR2?

It’s a Toyota too so it probably does.

That’s how it works, right?

Yup, the Century at C&C had that.

Is there a reason for the smaller trunk?

Was it completely flat, wool carpeted, with a full size spare underneath?

With a welder and a sawzall, many things become possible. :P

Yes to wool carpet trunk, but the spare was missing.

Nobody needs a trunk pass-through on a Toyota Century! That stuff is for the peasantry who actually use the trunk to haul inconvenient things beyond small shopping bags.

Pass through is for peasants, if you need something from back there you have the chauffeur fetch it for you.

I’ve considered getting one, but I want an older one. I always talk to drivers at hotels in Japan while they wait. They like to show you the features.

It does have a pass through between the rear and front seat, though, doesn’t it? So the passenger can stretch out his legs?

but this one looks long enough not to need that.

Having just what is necessary is the mark of plebians.

Darn, if I knew it was that easy to experience the Century, I would’ve done that while I was in Japan.

I wasn’t aware that the Century was discontinued when I went to Japan earlier this year, so I was highly disappointed to not see one at the Toyota MEGAWEB, but I did get to drive a few new models around the short test circuit.

Oh any good hotel in Shinjuku will have one waiting at some point. We usually stay at the Park Hyatt for a night when we get to Japan before going anywhere and I usually see one there. The guys are pretty Jalop about cars, sometimes a V12 appears! I want an older one with the famous V12.

My family ended up going the AirBnB route for our 10 days in Japan, and we didn’t stray far from the Tokyo Metro or any train.

I didn’t get to experience the Century at the above C&C since I went to British Car Day instead.
