Kinja'd!!!

*Just add tax, tag, title, and $799 dealer document processing fee .

Called on a Fiat last week and that dealer’s fee was $899 on top of the “no haggle price” of $22k. But this Miata has an LSD and just dropped is price by $1,000. Think I’m going to call and tell them if they drop their fee I’ll put a deposit down and come buy it.

( Same one I posted about last week.)

Smells like BS to me. Document processing is part of their business. Tax, tag, title all reasonable, “dealer fee” is NFW.

Have you thought about asking Tom if he can beat that deal? Sure you pay his fee but the total cost might be lower.

It is absolutely horseshit. Especially when the dealer can take a while to get the paperwork done. What takes me an hour or two at the DMV takes days for their employees.

The dealer I bought my 328i was adamant about charging me a $699 doc fee, I was like I don’t give a shit how you make it work out, this is what I’m paying. I will give you 17k for the car, that’s it. You can figure out how to make those numbers work for you. They charged me the doc fee, but the price of the car was 16.3k, so for a total of 17k.

You can buy a leftover 2016 Club for 22k if you can still find one.

Also, get the OTD price so they don’t take off the $799 fee but charge you for several other suspicious fees that add up to $799.

“Think I’m going to call and tell them if they drop their fee I’ll put a deposit down and come buy it.”

Exactly. That seems like one of those fees that exist only to make a buyer feel like they’re getting a deal, or to squeeze a couple extra hundred out of a buyer that doesn’t ask questions.

The document processing fee is mostly BS, yes. Like $200-250 is acceptable as it does pay for people to handle title work and deal with the financial docs.

$800 is simply a rip-off.

I’ve been under the assumption that he does new cars, haven’t thought about it though to be honest. The one I posted it $22k, a ways off from new $28k.

Thats what I was thinking. If you have to put in there, okay, but then charge me $21,200.

The left overs I’ve seen for that low have all been autos. But thats a good point, dont need other fees sneaking in. I’ll ask for OTD.

Seems to me a way to only have a $22k ask price when really you’re hiding the profit after.

Holy BS! I think mine was like 120$ or something but they also itemized out the tag and title fees so all in it was like 300$?

And are you really going to florida for a car? That’s dedication!

Good luck getting it dropped. My solution was: cool, let’s drop the price of the car by the fee in your papers and I’ll sign the dotted line. It worked out the way I wanted

I did the same on a prior car. We hagled back and forth, they said fees for important etc etc etc. “my manager will never let me waive the fee!”
I said “I agree to pay X dollars today, you fiddle the price of the car and include the fees, I dont car, but X dollars is the final price”.

And of course thats exactly what they did, they dropped the vehicle price the exact amount of the fees they couldn’t waive.

This is what will happen if anything, when I was in sales we couldn’t drop the fee for anybody, even ourselves, otherwise you open yourself up to litigation from the people who do pay it. But they may be able to account for it in the OTD price.

I hate those “mandatory” fees, I wish they’d just list the car and be like this is the price, however you want to make it work to make you happy is fine.

in australia a lot of places advertise the price as “out the door”. so fees or whatever are included (hidden?) in the price. I’m sure it all still works out in the dealership’s favour, but at least you know the price on the car is the price of the car.

Every time I’ve gone car shopping here in Virginia I look at the dealer processing fee and simply add that to the price. “$6000 plus $500 processsing fee!” to me says “$6500.”

Not a bad take, but now I’m wondering if they’ll drop the $800 “fee” after dropping the ask price $1,000.

I agree with asking them to drop the asking price by the amount of the fee. If they want to sell you the car, they will. If they don’t think they need to, they won’t. Simple as that.

Same thing happened to me this weekend when i went to check out an Alfa . Got everything squared and was $0 down with $329 a month. after everything is done Dealer Fees/Tax/licence adds up to a whopping $1995.95...

No idea where they come up with that number.

I think they are saying $0 down and just adding “Dealer Fee” to substitute. BS
