Kinja'd!!!

I’ve captured some time lapse videos with my GoPro HERO4. Some of them came off the camera as a folder full of hundreds of JPEGs. One I shot this morning came off as an MP4, but it won’t play back in Windows Media Player or VLC, but it will play back on the GoPro.

Any thoughts?

My GoPro knowledge kinda of peters out at the 4, but if I recall all the timelapse functionality is simply taking a picture in intervals, I don’t know if the GoPro actually stitches video together. I also know that they have a hidden folder of .mp4 files that is used to stream to a device as proxy files so that could be what you downloaded. I think the easiest way to stitch the jpegs is to use their terrible software, or if you have good software like Adobe you can use that. Simply click the first jpeg in the sequence and choose “import jpeg sequence”

GoPro’s support is poop. Links to support articles go 404. GoPro is a great idea, but I am being frustrated right now.

And their desktop app only runs on Windows 10.

Thank you. I don’t need it to do much of anything but make a reliable MP4 out of what’s on the camera. Anything else I’ll do with some other program.

I’m sure you’ll do fine.

I installed the older GoPro software and it cannot seem to fun the TL video either, though uploading it to YouTube, it displays fine there.

Not GoPro specific, but the camera I use for time-lapse (Replay XD) also generates multiple folders of up to 1000 JPEGs each. I use my video editing software (Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13) to render it as a viewable video file. It actually has the option to select all the JPEGs in a folder and automatically import them in as a single media file within the software. It might be something to check on if you have a video editing program.

Thank you. I have some folders like that full of JPEGs. I am being advised that my processor is too old as well. I haven’t selected a video editing software yet. I may have access to Adobe Premier, and some Oppos suggested an open source app called ShotCut.
