So in and around Jasper there’s a handful of reasonably unusual vehicles. Or at least not hugely common.

This baby has 550,000km on the odometer.

Note the all-natural free-range organic parking brake. Other than that it’s looking a lot better than my MJ at 530k.

But BC plates tell me it’s from a much more mild climate than ‘Toba so I feel slightly justified. Also the MJ definitely does not get babied... It’s a Jeep. Not all the roads it sees are paved. Or roads.

This is where the trail took me. Bald Hills.

Did you guys know I live in a postcard? I just got my contract extended until the end of March, so I’m here all winter. I’m pretty excited, not gonna lie.

Oh man, I could not live in Jasper- I can barely handle the traffic driving through. Last summer a car stopped mid lane and both driver and passenger got out to take a picture of an elk. Just left the car parked on the highway. Multiply that by a thousand and you have the hell between Robsen and Hinton..

Yup. That’s been my reality all summer. I’ve actually had some idiots reverse at me in the driving lane. Blind corners? Nope, that elk that’s been chilling there all summer is more important. 16 isn’t usually anywhere near as bad as 93 south to Banff, cause there’s enough traffic with zero interest in the elk to remind people they did something stupid.

Other than that it’s really not too bad. It’s also noticeably less busy since school went back in session. There’s actually been vacancy signs without the “NO” illuminated this weekend.
