Driving on the highway today, my wife comments as we pass a Juke.

Wife: Oh, that’s cute.

Me: *Screams internally*

Wife: But a little too small.

Me: *Breath of relief*

Wife: For my next car I think I’d like something where I sit up a little higher.

Me: Okay. (Sad that we will finally succumb to the CUV trend)

Although, after thinking about it later, maybe when the time comes I’ll see if she is interested in a Porsche Macan. Fortunately she does not expect anything soon, as her Mazda3s is only 3 years old and has very few miles on it.

And why get an SUV when I can fit two patio chair, a small table, and groceries in my GTI.

If you have to live with an objectionable CUV, make it an Acura RDX. At least it’s quick.

There is nothing wrong with the Juke.

Eh, Audi/Porsche seem to be pretty reliable nowadays.

I hear that lifting WRXs is a thing now.

Compared to a Compass, sure. But if you’re really going to compare the reliability of a Macan to an RDX...

V6 transmissions. That is all. Also, Honda quality isn’t even remotely close to what it used to be.

They fixed the transmission issues on the V6s well before the RDX got them. We get it, you don’t like Honda.

FTFY. We’re talking about a 2 ton vehicle with 280hp, after all.

Well, yeah, but that’s true for most of the segment.

I don’t mind Honda, but an RDX isn’t in even remotely the same realm as the Macan.

You’re right. One is primarily bought by badge snobs and the other is primarily bought by people who want an all-around solid vehicle.

If that helps you sleep at night, but it isn’t even remotely true.

While the Macan is objectively better in every performance category, it isn’t unfair to say that a lot of Macan buyers are interested in the car, at least in part, because of the badge. They don’t get the car because it has a “sporty” chassis and there are equivalent competitors that offer better luxury and fit and finish.

Even the X3 offers better fit and finish and practicality than a Macan.

My biggest takeaways from the Macan were as follows:
> Wow there is an insane amount of buttons in here (and even more blanks than buttons)
> Why does this Nav look like something out of a VW (only worse)?
> Cool gauges (sarcasm). Good thing I have a huge tach in my automatic CUV
> Does this fake wood and wood design remind you of an XK8 too, or is it just me?
> VERY limited cargo capacity for the segment. Why bother when you have barely more cargo space than a mid-size sedan?

The cargo space is actually an interesting point to bring up because, I looked it up and, a new 5 series actually offers more cargo space than a Macan (with the Macan’s seats up of course).

But the RDX isn’t even the X3.

Yeah... not sure I’d stack an RDX up against a Macan. That’s a little too far in the other direction.

I actually liked the unusual look when it first came out, seemed very rally vehicle from the future. But the rear space seems messed up and not so useful, and I’m not as interested in the look anymore. I could probably be okay if my wife chose a Juke, but I hope that there will be a better option.

I might consider a Juke-R if they were realistically attainable in the US.
