Kinja'd!!!

The first gen Suzuki XL-7 (basically a stretched Grand Vitara) could be had with a manual transmission and a third row seat. There are very few cars ever offered, in the U.S. at least, with that combo.

Kinja'd!!!

The only other similarly equipable cars that come to mind are few Volvos and a Land Rover. Oh and a 1st gen Dodge Caravan I think.

Unless you count a manual pickup with 2 people in the cab and 5 in the bed as a 7 passanger vehicle, which I do.

You guys also get a manual Rondo, which I believe also has 7 seats, and the Mazda 5 has 6. Yeah you guys had three manual 7-seaters and still have two!

And of course, you get the Micra that we don’t.

Even though the Orlando may suck, I’m still surprised they didn’t sell it down here, given how popular crossovers are in the US

I think it was only available with a manual in five-seat trim, but I could be wrong.

You can always install the third seat afterwards and you can probably find one from a junkyard :o)

I could probably find hundreds of cars that came with 7 seats and manual transmissions but I’m guessing OP meant in the US. In other markets you can also get stuff like the Toyota Innova, Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MU-X, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Chevrolet Captiva, Peugeot Tepee Outdoor and a bunch of Minivan’s and Indian/Chinese offerings.

My friend used to work at a rental car place up in the Virginia mountains, and one day he sent me a picture of an Orlando that they had gotten in that day from one of their Canadian branches.

Or just 7 people in the cab if their all minors*

I’ve only done 6, but what’s one person at that point. And yes, I had someone else shifting gears.

The Dodge and Plymouth sub-brands never had a presence overseas. Most models that were sold there were just sold as Chryslers. For example, the Dodge Caravan, Plymouth Voyager, and Chrysler Town & Country were all the same vehicle, but in Europe it was just sold as a Chrysler Voyager. We got a Dodge Neon, but you got it as a Chrysler Neon.

Can confirm. I have one of the approximately 3 that they sold in the US (OK, slight exaggeration). I probably haven’t used the third row in four years, but it’s nice to know it’s there.

In other countries it can be had as a 7-seater, but that’s only in places where people are considerably smaller. As it is now, I already use the passenger armrest whilst driving...

Awesome that you have a manual 5! How many miles do you have on it? Has it been reliable? How bad is the rust? Do you get good mpg?

Could you? I had its platform twin - a manual Santa Fe and the third row was an option that was only available when you stepped up to auto-only trimmed. I always thought the Sorento was the same.

I actually looked at these back two car purchases ago in 2010. They actually stopped selling it part way through the first gen in 2005 I think so they were older than what I wanted. I looked at a lot of oddball stuff like a manual Jeep Liberty but got a manual 2007 Santa Fe. Interestingly the Santa Fe had a an optional third row but only higher trims that were auto only. There were a few crazy people in the forums who bought and installed OEM third rows in the manual cars, but I never did.

Yup, looks like you’re right. Only the base trim came with the manual, no 3rd row available.

I was putting on about 15K/year when I had a 39 mile (round trip) commute, but now that I have a job two miles from the house I’ve been putting on considerably fewer miles. At last check I think I’ve put about 51K on it in the 59 months I’ve owned it. One more payment, a partial one at that, and it’s all mine! Somewhat surprisingly I have no desire whatsoever to replace it. I’ve driven all sorts of fancier stuff over the years (968, E34, E320, E21 and countless VWs), but this humble little thing is the one I want to keep forever, for some odd reason.

Rust? None that I’ve seen, and I live in the Midwest. Reliable? Well, I had to have a motor mount replaced under warranty at 35K (but they did replace all three mounts, including the trans mount), and that’s been it for unscheduled repairs. I do need to replace the battery, but it’s at the end of it’s natural life. Tires don’t count since they too are normal wear items. After decades of German cars I had no idea what it’s like to experience low maintenance costs and high reliability, and let me tell you, unless I’m independently wealthy I’m never going back.

Mileage has only been so-so. It’s rated at 21/28 but I don’t do a lot of distance driving these days so I’m at the lower end of that range, if not further down. The worst I think was about 16 MPG, with most tanks in the 18-20 MPG range. I could drive more efficiently, but that rev-happy engine and slick transmission have me zipping up to redline more often than I really should. Unlike most minivans, this is not a rolling penalty box to drive. And if I find a little spare time I may even try autocrossing it...
