An ‘08 Z06 with under 15k miles is $38k ($70k when new). How bad of an idea is it to replace my daily with this?

No idea what your current daily is, but a C6 Z06 wouldn’t be too rediculous. I drive a C6 base, and as long as you’re prepared to scrape on every driveway, and deal with the limited practicality, it doesn’t really have any downsides.

Knock on wood, nothing in the last 5 years.

Hm... scraping could be an issue. My Lancer has too much front overhang and scrapes on my driveway. Granted, the Miata does not.

They still used leaf springs on these, so I’m not sure I would tolerate having such an awful ride on a daily.

Plus you have to put up with mid-00s GM interior quality, the same stuff your dustbin is made of - but with worse ergonomics.

That being said, they’re a fantastic performance bargain, just not an ideal daily.

My mind immediately went to a BRZ (still has a zed in the name) that, while allegedly underpowered, you still have fun in at near legal speeds.

The C7 and new XC90 use leaf springs too. It isn’t like truck leaf springs where there’s a pack per side, it’s one that spans across the car to be a more compact substitute to coil springs.

True, although this isn’t the case with the C6, which iirc uses a more old-fashioned setup.

They’ve actually used a transverse leaf in some form or another since the C4, though only in the front on that generation. C5+ uses it on both ends.

Transverse leaf arrangement isn’t to the same effect as actual magnetic ride control or the use of polyurethane composite leafs though. I would expect GM’s designers to improve the suspension setup over the years, but most seem to have reported that the C6 was still far behind the competition in this area. So, not something to risk as a daily.

Corvette’s are the single best DD you can buy, unless you have kids that need to go in it, or your wife decides you have kids that need to go in your car.

I’ve already got a Miata, so it kind of feels too close. It also doesn’t really work for my commute. I either need 2 seats or 4 usable seats. The carpool lane is either 100% occupancy or 3 people.

Should be fine. Lots of torque is nice in traffic and the clutch isn’t too heavy. Had decent seat time in a C6Z and it wasn’t bad around town or on the highway.

If you are in traffic a lot, it might suck to be lower than everyone (I didn’t like it). But otherwise, it’s not too bad.

You will be less prone to noises and rattles because of the fixed roof, but even a nice example will get them eventually. Actually, expect a lot of little noises. Fuel pump, shifter rattle, clutch rattle, tire roar, wind noise. The usual stuff.

You will scrape though. Most of the times it will just be the air dam, but you might even get the skid plates for the bumper support sometimes (fangs). I never got scrapes on my actual bumper, but I had a C5Z. I imagine it might be easier to scrape the bumper itself with a C6.

One other thing: valve guide wear. If you are paranoid about stuff like that (I am), then I would budget $1,500 to $2K for head work.

Indeed - but look up SamCrac on YouTube to learn how to buy a salvage/flood car. You don’t want to get fucked.
