Kinja'd!!!

I got my car back. Or at least I got MOST of my car back: they completely failed to reattach about $150 worth of plastic aero pieces to the front bumper. So it’s going back to the shop yet again...

I just hope I get that rental Edge with the huge sunroof again. That was a fun car for the time I had it.

“Why don’t you ever just take your car to a shop?” they ask...

ummm...how did they forget that?

righto cars all put together again... hey theres a bunch of plastic left over... eh probably not important (i mean.. that tends to be my reaction when i have a washer left over after putting shit together... so guess it applies to large slabs of plastic too)

Good thing you caught that. Looks like you have an interesting conversation to look forward to.

To be fair, not all shops are bad. I pretty royally fucked up offering parts for my S600 (bought the wrong wheel for a new tire, left the car without a wheel while a new one takes a week to ship from Florida) and instead of telling me to get fucked, they gave me a brand new ML350 to drive around in for however long it takes. Also, the car is due for its “B” service, where they replace all fluids and change the oil, new wipers, and rotate the tires. They could’ve scalped me on that for like $500, but they’re just charging me for the oil change and fluids as the wipers are new enough and I’m getting new tires anyways. All I’m saying, in my book dealers should be given a chance.

It looks like they replaced everything that was damaged and then figured they were done, somehow not realizing there were some still-good parts presumably in their dumpster.

When I bought my car, it was missing several of the clips that hold that plastic shield to the bumper cover and surrounding parts, so I found and ordered the necessary parts to get it all back together properly, took the time to get everything lined up and fastened down.

Then I had to take it to a shop for some work and it came back with half the new clips missing and zip-ties in places where screws had been previously.

This is one of the many reasons I have for being reticent to take my car in for work.

There are good ones out there, but there are far more awful ones. The good ones are a real needle/haystack situation.

One thing to remember as well to the folks bashing the shop, as I do from time to time, the shop isn’t just one entity, it’s run by people and all it takes is one of those people to fall down on the job, or cut a corner and out end up with a bad rap for the entire shop. So just exercise restraint when dealing with places like this, as it may have been an honest mistake, or somebody trying to save their ass cause they pitched the wrong part. Important thing here is what they do to resolve it. We’ve all screwed up at some point, the real test is how we deal with the screw up and get it resolved.

At least that’s my opinion, but I could be full of crap too. ;)

Very very true. My friends Honda dealer is ridiculous. They charge $160 an hour for mechanical work, and they draw everything out as long as they can. For reference, Benz only charges $135.

I was going to say- the prices for service you’ve mentioned have been very reasonable considering it’s an S600!

They’re an excellent dealer. I usually get a 15% discount too. I don’t hesitate to take it them because they do quality work. I’d recommend them to anyone.
