Kinja'd!!!

Suburban: doing well. It got a new radiator on Monday, as well as new plugs and fawnseh MSD wires. The plugs and wires were the originals with 138k miles and were the reason it couldn’t get out of its own way from a dead stop. It runs so much stronger now! Still gets terrible fuel economy.

Jeep: I’ve been dailying it after a long hiatus from the road. It was doing wonderfully and even achieved a respectable 16 mpg on the last tank! I was daydreaming about taking it on a road trip in the future... Then, it hard broke. I clutched in, shifted to neutral and rolled to a stop for a light. Light turns green, clutch in, first gear selected, ease out on the clutch and into the gas, move forward about a foot and BAM! If felt like I slammed into a brick wall. Tried for forward motion a couple more times in a confused panic with similar results. Trailered it home, and there it sits.

Studebaker: lol...

Kinja'd!!!

Travel trailer: lots of new wood, stainless hardware, paint and sealant. Perhaps it won’t dissolve further in the coming rains.

Kinja'd!!!

Toyota... Rav4? RAV4? RAV-4?: It’s still an ugly, awful thing that lives in the driveway.

More than one gear engaged?

I need to get my XJ back on the road... Sadly it’s in line behind the Niva and MJ. Looks like this’ll be the second winter it ends up sitting abandoned under my watch. :(

I can’t believe you were getting 16 mpg in your XJ with tires that big!

Tall, skinny tires (33x10.50), 4.56 gears and an AX-15. The manual swap did wonders for my fuel economy!

With the transfer case in neutral, it shifts through all gears and it sounds just fine...

How involved was the manual swap? Would it be possible to do with basic tools and jack stands?

The ‘97-’01 clutch pedal is rarer than hens’ teeth, so I built my own. That’s was a colossal PITA, and it still isn’t perfect. The transmission I used was from a TJ, so I had to reclock the transfer case. The transfer case linkage is different, too, so that’s cobbled together from this and that, I had to get creative with the wiring and I still don’t have reverse lights... It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done to my XJ, but 10/10 would not do again.

Yeah, I didn’t look too close. The double-gear jamming was something the pukegoats liked to do, but yours is much too new for that. Does it roll in neutral? My next guess is a grenaded diff, if the tcase seems to be operating normally. Or stuck brakes, but my MJ could always push through the brakes. I’m sure you’ll figure it out... hopefully it’s not too expensive.

Note to self: research manual swap before buying xj.

It’s got to be diffs. I drove it around the block after unloading it from the trailer and it seems fine... Obviously I’m not going to trust it. The scary part is I was doing 80 mph on the freeway in the XJ the night before this happened!

In theory, it’s easy if you have a donor vehicle. I did not.

Eh. I’ve done 80mph for a few thousand miles on this:

My situation does not allow for “donor vehicles”. Fun fact, gettting married allows for dual incomes to support certain aspects of your life such as play cars, it does however come with limitations such as not being allowed to own cars that have “donor” in the name.

My wife makes some grumbles, and I definitely don’t drag home as much garbage add I used to, but for the most part she’s pretty gracious!
