The Genesis G70 has a ton of interior variations from what Ive seen, but the Stinger’s “Detonator” key fob is so clever and unique that I think everyone can agree it’s worth a few points. Please let holding down the lock button activate a remote start feature.

Im still not big on Hyundai the car brand but Kia and Genesis have my complete support since they obviously have read my diary...err, journal. I love great proportions, surprising interior color choices, comfort focus, value based on content rather than price, and sweet sweet sweet accelerated depreciation (hence my British and Italian car addictions, but these are easy to maintain and reliable)!

Remember that the upcoming SUVs will be RWD-based from Genesis (and maybe the Kia Telluride which is rumored to be shown next year) and that all Korean engines from 1.6 Gamma to 3.3 Lambda to 5.0 Tau are all built to run 87 octane in the US. They are checking all of my very specific boxes.

Used Hyundai is best Hyundai, the big fancy ones depreciate so fast and hold up so well. I need to see a Stinger in the flesh, because I haven’t seen a good looking angle in any pictures (maybe it just doesn’t jive with my sensibilities).

No worries, I sometimes love it and sometimes think it looks over ornamented and bloated. Still want it regardless since I enjoy designs that keep my interest for years (whether I like them or not). Here are some other angles though:

For the last one, the eye patch look works really well for it. AAARGGH MATIE!

Man, id be all over their nuts if i wasn’t enraged at their idea of an appropriate transmission for their sport sedan (Not that i can blame them from a business standpoint, but still. Enraged okay?)

Every single one including the upcoming GV80 midsize SUV, GV70 compact CUV, and the grand touring coupe they have mentioned. That gets us to 2020 with RWD vehicles, after that Im sure some FWD stuff will pop up.

I like the downward angle shots better, makes me think that it’d look better in person since most glamour shots are low angle shots. I’m not a cruiser/executive luxury person, so these aren’t marketed at me anyway.

Maybe when I’m older I’ll want one as a daily, but by then we’ll all have to buy electric cars. 2030 is less than 13 years away, so we could be looking at the last generation of gas only cars (I think we’ll skip hybrids for the most part and end up with full electrics as the norm without a hybrid era).

Nah, we still have a while yet. 2010 was almost 8 years ago and cars are barely preparing to go 48volts and start running electric superchargers on every 2.0l turbo 4-cyl. We will have electric versions of everything but it will still be another three car generations (so 21 years) before electric can be a majority of the new cars being sold globally. Not THAT far off though...

Interesting. I have to admit: when Hyundai announced that they’d branch into a luxury line (like Acura for Honda or Infiniti for Nissan) I was very skeptical. But I’m seeing these pictures and I’m STUNNED. I am very interested in seeing these vehicles on the road. Acura and Infiniti are boring. They produce next to nothing of excitement (for me, that is).

Way to go Hyundai for blasting out of the gate with amazing looking stuff!

That G70 interior looks soooo good

Next to it the G80 look dated.

I want a Stinger

As I’m driving more and more I realize how important it is to me to have the gear I want when I want it. An auto can choose the right gear 100 times our of 101 but that one time comes around far more frequently as these cars gain more and more speeds. Drives me crazy when I expect a certain thing to happen but something else occurs instead!

Lol, this is exactly my train of thought! I didn’t realize how cheap and old the interior of the lower end G80s will look until I got to this picture:

Kinja'd!!!

It goes to show that time always kills design before it brings it back. The G70 has interiors across such a broad spectrum of colors and quality that I can’t get a great read on it. Sometimes it looks $22k and other times I see an $80k large car interior with some Bentley-inspired choices turned into a little sports sedan. I’ve never seen the amount of variety at this end of the market (good and bad).

Yeah, I’ve come to accept a nice dsg for super high performance applications, but for the most part, I just want to have fun. Manuals are fun. And you can always ensure you’re in the correct gear should you decide to drive aggressively enough....

Stinger is hawt though. No denying that.

I’ve been very impressed with the Korean offerings lately. I would definitely go Korean over their Japanese counterparts.

Is the Stinger a platform mate with the G70 (or any of the other Genesis sedans)? I’m honestly becoming more and more sold on Korean cars; these are gorgeous and I’m always up for more options in the sporty sedan department

Stinger and G70 share the K-Series platform that came from the Genesis Coupe. The G80, G90, and K900 use the H/I-Series platform which came from the Genesis Sedan and Equus (though K900 is on the old version of that platform, G80 is on a refined version of the old platform that was tuned by Lotus, and G90 is on a pretty much new version of the platform). Everything is evolving with each car.
