Or anyone else, naturally. What can I do about this?

Kinja'd!!!

One piece has already fallen off (I have it. Not sure if it’s any use).

I’m not super concerned because these seats aren’t wonderful (shitty bolstering) anyway and eventually I want to replace them with H3 seats. Or, if bolstering can be added, recover them with some actual leather instead of this vinyl crap. Still, I’m not exactly in a hurry to finish destroying the seat... so what can I do to patch this up a little that won’t look like shit?

ALSO YES I KNOW I NEED TO VACUUM MY TRUCK SHUT UP

Thoughts? Any help would be appreciated.

A custom upholstery shop should be able to fix that up. My E46 had a tear in the upper bolster when I bought it, the dealer paid to have it fixed, so I’m not sure what it cost.

That works for this kind of stuff? I’d have thought it set too hard and would cause more cracking.

Hmmm. I’ll consider that one.

Just take it to a local upholstery shop. They’ll be able to sew in a new piece of material for not very much money, and they’ll probably be happy to refresh that portion of the foam while they’ve got the seat out and the cover off. I’ve had things like this fixed before and it has never cost more than $100, even on a leather seat. If you show up with cash, don’t need a receipt and don’t care if the material is an exact and perfect match, it will probably cost even less.

I repair this kind of stuff. Normally this repair doesn’t last a long time because it’s the worn seat cushion that’s to blame. Replacing the seat cushion would make it last longer, but it’s possible to get some mileage out of a proper repair.

That said, people that do what I do for a living are, sadly, usually poorly trained using shit material so it’s a bit of a gamble. Asking your local high end used car dealers who they use is a start. Usually the franchise guys (like Dr.Vinyl, Fabrion, Autoqual) are a poor bet. I’m in northern Delaware if that helps. I’d say a cost on this repair would fall in anywhere from $45-$75. I’d do it for a drink.

Of course as mentioned a new piece of vinyl sewn in is best and not pricey either, but don’t do that without new seat foam as it’ll just happen again...they cost roughly $100 normally.

Good to know. In that case I might as well wait for it to unravel itself more before fixing it properly.

Black caulking, here I come.
