I love this. The pouring would be so efficient! So much cross sectional area to let tea flow through, the cup would fill very quickly compared to a normal spout.

Where this hits peak asshole and minimum function is when you go to actually drink from it - aka final step in use cycle gets the shaft.

I’ve probably designed things that had that problem.

The loop is big enough to fit a thumb through, and you could then wrap fingers around it, so for certain types of drinks and the ceramic not being too hot, you could see this one being part of some kind of cultural drink thing somewhere. A “Teyabo” cup or something (making up words here).

I mean, it’s usable with mittens, so that’s something.

It needs some sort of overly complicated device to hold and tip the cup at an appropriate angle to let the user drink it, but not too quickly as to not burn the user’s mouth.

Do we go with a counterbalanced 4 bar mechanism to allow the user to control the angle and speed while providing support, or do we use servos and temperature sensors to move the cup through a multi-axis movement appropriate to the temperature of the tea?

I was thinking a second handle and a spout on the mug to drink from. Passive solutions that will easily double the per-piece casting/assembly but probably won’t fail in the field.

I’m thinking a counterweight attached to the handle to swing back opposite the weight, which linkage also opens a valve in the bottom to let the tea into the equally-absurdly-shaped saucer to cool (you can lock the valve for sipping the dregs). Which saucer has a raised edge to keep the bottom of the cup dry, and has an integral milk reservoir in the rim, which lets out only the correct amount of milk for each saucerful when you turn a little tab.

The milk metering wheel would have five or six different modular inserts, of course. For differing preference amount.
