That color is perfect.

The 01 SE I’ve been dailying is my first experience with an LSD and I’m never going back. Why do people even bother with open diffs?

LSD is standard on the 86 twins and even the V6 Mustang. If a $25K sports car on a bespoke platform has room in the bottom line for an LSD, it seems to me nobody else really has an excuse to use an open diff.

LSD are trickier to handle for people with no experience and under the limit, open-diff are safer. You really have to force a car with an open-diff to get its tail out, then it becomes hardly controlable... While LSD help get the tail out easily but make it easy to control... Someone who has never experienced anything else other than grocery runs in their car (99% of the population basically) can get freaked out under the rain or snow in a car with a LSD as it makes the car a lot more lively... This is why opendiff were the most common on cars before... Now with all the electronic nannies, LSD are becoming more and more standard as the cars help tone down that moving tail thing...

Oh yes, definitely experienced the less-safeness of an LSD first hand right when I got my Miata. The first day it rained I turned a 90 degree traffic light start into around a 150 degree turn that I mangaged to recover get going straight. But man was that scary with having NO experience at all. Now I still do this but at least its on purpose when I do anymore, especially in the snow.

The sunburst NA/NBs are the best! And yes that torsen LSD is the great. Really makes it hard to get stuck in the snow and makes for some much more fun spririted driving all the time. Have definitely felt it working during autocross even though it is a minor difference there.

Also, that road looks quite fun. I am looking forward to living in California where I will have stuff like this local.

Why do people even bother with open diffs?

I routinely refer to open differentials and torque converters as Tools Of The Devil.

“I’m really glad I got the model with the open differential”, said No One Ever.

That is one awesome looking Miata. Nice find!

I really need to make a trip to Japan sometime soon, and come check out all your cars while I’m there. haha

I’ve always heard LSD is great, except for the paranoia!

Well it will be next to impossible to lose it in a parking lot. :)

Genuinely upset Mazda/Fiat limited the LSD to only one model for each. There are no good deals on Abarths yet, cheaper Lussos but no LSD and I live in Michigan where it snows.

The fuel door is an aftermarket part from the company Runabout, it’s their Type 1 style which I think it out of production. http://revlimiter.net/blog/2013/10/old-parts-new-parts/

That Nardi knob looks to be a rare (at least in the US) part if it has the 5-speed pattern on it. I’m seeing mint ones sell for prices north of $250 to $275.

That center console is an expensive (700$ for US buyers) Nakamae product: http://rev9autosport.com/nakamae-black-vintage-center-console.html

The convertible top looks to be a replacement with a glass window instead of the standard-for-NA plastic ones, which is a great upgrade.

And the radiator finish panel in the engine bay is aftermarket and very tasteful!

Someone bought a nice Roadster for sure!
