Car-less, but definitely not careless

For the first time in about 16 years, I do not own a car.

I’m borrowing a friend’s Grand Caravan until I can figure out a solution, but it’s very unnerving to not own a car.

I grew up in rural SoCal, where having a car is basically a requirement. I have never lived closer than 20 miles or 30 minutes from my job. The automobile has been a necessary tool to my livelihood and my survival.

And now, I’m one apologetic “hey man, I hate to do this to ya” phone call away from being without a vehicle. If my buddy decides to take back the van, I’m basically screwed.

It’s a weird feeling to be so hopelessly dependent on a single tool. I don’t like it.

You need us to find you something.? Cause we can do that, you know, as a special favor for a friend.

This is why I’m a big believer in the 4-car minimum lifestyle!

In all serious, I shudder for you. SHUDDER.

You can find me a free C63 AMG, I’d take one of those.

So what happened to your car? I see a two posts about it, one with a light post, and one about the clutch.

It was the clutch hydraulics, which have been a recurring problem for the past five years or so. Shit parts in a shit car lead to obvious results, thanks Daimler Chrysler.

Truth be told, I was forced to decide between spending $1000+ to get the clutch fixed again, to say nothing of the other problems that didn’t immediately prevent it from running, and then getting maybe $500 on trade-in; or sell it to a wrecker for a little under $1000 and put that into... something else.

If I could afford registration and insurance on two cars, I would be so happy. As it stands, I’m having a hard enough time managing one.

I assume you’re dumping it? Any idea what you’re gonna get next?

Also, I got $1000 for my 1997 Explorer when I traded it in back in 2015. So you might get more than you think in trade in.

I don’t think BMW makes those.

It is gone as of this past Monday. I did some research, and I think what they have me is fair. I *might* have lost a couple hundred, but it was in pretty rough shape.

No idea what’s next, tho. Not sure I’m ready to go back into debt, and not sure the amount I can scrape up will give me something that fits in needs. I’ll let you all know when I make a move, tho, or if I’ll need any help. You folks are all awesome.

I bought my 328i with 0 down. Debt does suck, but it seems like it’s a nessecary evil at times.
