The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge dropped to $475 at B&H and I'm seriously considering snagging one

Kinja'd!!!

I ruled out most of the phones I had been considering on my previous exhaustive list of phones I might buy , and today I noticed that B&H is now selling the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for $475 . Very interesting.

Here’s why I ruled out basically everything I was considering.

ZTE Axon 7: The camera’s just not good enough in low light. I’m a photo nerd and while I do have proper good cameras, I’m craving a good low light camera in my next phone.

Huawei Nexus 6P: It’s the same exact size as the LG V20. I did find a case that made the V20 manageable for me to hold but it didn’t offer much protection of the phone. It has 3 GB of RAM like my Moto X Pure. It’s generally fine, but I’ve experienced 4 GB of RAM on my wife’s Asus Zenpad 3S 10 tablet and it’s nice .

Moto Z Droid: The camera is a downgrade in all areas from my Moto X Pure. It’s probably never going to be updated, it’s SIM-locked to Verizon, and it’s not global compatible.

LG G6: Haven’t completely ruled it out, but it’s not really grabbing me. Even with the extra screen height, it’s a small phone, and it has some of the same annoying things that bugged me about the V20.

I do still like the Google Pixel XL, but the more I looked at refurb warranties the less a refurb appealed to me. With the Pixel 2 being announced on Oct 4, maybe the price on a brand new original Pixel XL will drop, but I kinda doubt the 128 GB will dip below $500. Sure the unlocked S7 Edge only has 32 GB of built-in memory, but unlike the Pixel XL, it has a microSD slot.

The LG V30 and Pixel XL 2 both interest me, but there’s no way in hell the price on either of these is going to be remotely close to $500 anytime soon.

I have an S6 Edge and my only real complaint with is has been battery life. Add in nearly two years of battery degradation, and it’s not doing so hot right now but other than that it’s great. Just don’t drop it because repairs on the newer Samsung phones are just about impossible.

I rocks the 7 active and am more than happy with it. This is my 1st android thats sealed shut. Kinda nervous because i typically buy an external charger and 3 extra batteries that way I never have to plug it in. But so far so good.

I had a v10 with a zero lemon expanded battery and it was awesome. Unfortunately the screen quit working for no apparent reason, so I bought a moto z2 force edition. The dac and the camera are a downgrade which sucks as I used Mee Pinnacle P1 for travel and exercise. I’m hopping somebody comes out with a moto mod dac/amp/battery as I love the moto mod concept. The 3490 mah battery keeps me from ever using the internal battery, so it won’t be taxed through normal charge cycles. Plus you can swap out for a camera mod which is supposed to be nice. The moto mod idea is really awesome.

I want to like the Z2 Force but the ShatterShield screen bugs me because it picks up scratches like crazy. I still think Motorola does the best job of leaving the good parts of stock Android alone and adding only a select few tweaks. Best Buy knocking $200 off the price, IF you activate it on a plan and do monthly payments for the phone, but I’m on Total Wireless and that $200 discount isn’t available if you buy the phone outright. So the best price for me on the Z2 Force is $720 from Motorola.

I had an S7 edge and it was a very good phone. Looking back, I probably should have waited before pulling the trigger on the S8.

The battery life was solid, and its ability to shoot pics in low light was head and shoulders above any other phone I’ve had to that point.

I like the concept of these super tall screens but the regular S8 and G6 are skinnier than I prefer.

The S8+ and V30 are more my style but also cost more than I want to spend.

The Pixel XL 2 is supposed to be made by LG and very similar to the V30, but in exchange for the nice clean Android build and Google’s image processing tricks, it loses the V30's headphone jack, fancy DAC, and microSD slot.

The V30 is likely going to be the “cheapest” of the big, extra-tall phones at $750, and while I don’t necessarily think that number is out of line, it’s still a lot of money.

Yeah, I immediately put a glass screen protector on the phone, but they develop bubbles. Went through four of those and then bought an eight pack of a matte finished plastic protectors. A bit of refraction with whites, but overall I like it. No bubbles and super cheap and easy to replace.

I’ve never used a screen protector. The only phone I’ve managed to crack the screen from dropping, didn’t have a case on it. So now I stick with a case. In theory the ShatterShield is supposed to make it so you don’t need a screen protector but I don’t think becoming a scratch magnet is an acceptable trade-off.

I completely agree, but having a prophylactic screen/protector is something I won’t go without now after having one. I still managed to make micro scratches on the glass screens on my old phone, so I was doubly worried about this guy.

Pull that trigger! I’ve had mine for almost 2 years and love it. I never use the edge for anything though.

I actually did buy it last night. Seemed like it’s the best sub-$500 option for a Verizon & global compatible phone.

Now I’m obsessing over which case to get.

I’ve had this cheap one  for two years with zero issues.
