Putting chili on pasta is the worst thing to happen to Italians since the fall of Rome.

I mean... tomatoes (not native in Europe) are somewhat of new thing in Italy. Perhaps in the 1400's they opened up cans put Wolf Brand Chili and put it on their pasta.

We just don’t know for sure.

Yes, and tomatos and beef are a thing in tacos. I don’t put ragu sauce in my tacos.

Is Skyline better in person? I have a friend from Cincinnati and she made all the “traditional” Skyline fair with cans she brought back from a visit. It was edible and mediocre at best.

I think its an acquired taste. I grew up in Cincy and have had chili from a lot of the local chili houses. Skyline isn’t the greatest example of Cincinnati style chili, but it’s the most widespread. The cans certainly don’t taste the same as something that’s been simmering all day, but that’s just my opinion.

No. It is just as bad in person.

Skyline frozen stuff is atrocious. Skyline in the restaurant is good (just good, not awesome).

My gf loves Cincinnati Chili despite being a NE Ohio native who never had it until I met her. Now she makes big batches of the stuff with a recipe she found (those who say that chocolate is the secret ingredient are a bunch of liars), and freezes it. Her dad is a bit spoiled, thinking that what she makes is what Skyline serves, and keeps saying he wants to try Skyline once. I keep telling him, “Just...no.” Her recipe is so much better than anything I’ve ever had from Skyline, it’s not even in the same ball park.

There are certainly better places to have Cincinnati Chili. Skyline is just the biggest name and is considered synonymous with the dish itself.

It’s one of those guilty pleasures you kinda have to grow up with. Amazing if you’ve been eating it your whole life, but people who don’t get it will struggle. I didn’t get it until I put the hot sauce on it. Then it clicked for me.

Also, there’s people that hate white castle, but man does that sound better than anything I can imagine at least twice a year.
