Kinja'd!!!

So back in May I posted here , that my grandfather and I were doing a full frame off, rotisserie restoration on his 55 Chevy Bel-Air. Well now here in the middle of September we are really close to paint and hope to have the body off the rotisserie and into a paint booth and painted by the end of the month. Stripping the car revealed some really nasty body work in the quarter panels that was done before my grandparents bought the car 45 years ago. This is what we found:

They had just filled these areas with bondo over a 1/2" thick in some places. Other than the quarters the rest of the car was in really good shape. The other big task was melting out all the old lead seams and redoing them in bondo. Here is the current state of the body, just about ready for color:

The frame and drivetrain are now back together, the engine is now sitting back in the car with the 3x2's bolted down, the T-10 4 speed also mounted.

Hope to be able to start complete reassembly this winter with the ultimate goal of finishing the car and getting it on the road this summer!

Damn, I wish I had a garage like this. Looking forward to the finished product.

Also that’s a lot of Bondo

Nice pickup, my grandpa built one of those in the mid 90s, his was a radical custom. They are neat pickups always loved their styling.

Yeah it was bad, we were able to pull the quarter back out and now there is barely an 1/8" at the worst now. It just needed patience with the hammer and dolly.

Ooh, fairly period correct build! Period correct cars are the best kinds of cars, imo.
