Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I’m going 1999 on the Miata! The stainless steel scuff plates are from a ‘03 SE. All I need to get now is a black dashboard skin and the rear interior from another NB Miata! I’m missing a lot of the black interior pieces but as long as I can get the dashboard and the panels around the convertible, I can put the Miata back on the road and slowly swap the remaining tan parts out for black ones as I acquire them.

Because FUCK resale value, either the Miata dies or I die as I’m keeping it and will run it into the ground as long as I can drive it!

Nice. I can’t wait to get my Miata fixed up. A new clutch/flywheels/etc, motor mounts, ball joint, and some hard top brackets should have it feeling like a new car again instead of a miserable pile of fuck I want to get totaled in a parking lot.

Of course, I still need two new bumper covers and the hardtop painted... goddammit.

Go for stock motor mounts over the Mazdaspeed competition variants. They are quite firm but it causes some minor interior rattles. Also, careful with the hardtop brackets as I’ve seen a hardtop shell split layer-wise because the side brackets were too tight.

I’m still waiting on my friend to be available to help me install all this carpet and trim in a single weekend. He was able to get me this 10AE carpet without cutting it behind the dashboard (typical shortcut for pickers or installers) and do it in minimal time.

Also,

I’m now a JDM weeaboo but they match the interior theme better than faded 10AE carpets. The dashboard is here and all I need is to switch brake handle covers with my friend’s ‘02.

Rev9 stuff is such sex but also such $$$

Stock mounts for sure. Friend has mazdaspeeds in his turbo NA and it’s rough as stubbly balls.

The floor mats were on sale and the discount ended up being about the price of shipping! Yeah, I would like to burn money on Rev9 because JDM AS FUKK YO! but the Miata needs a paint job in a year or two and that’ll mark the end of this phase of upgrades. After this, I’m saving up for a second vehicle (wagon or truck) or a V6 swap for the Miata.

Jordan-SlowRunner has tossed that idea out to me before and I’m not against it! Since the Mazda6 used a Duratec 3.0L with VVT I’d be looking in the neighborhood of about 221 hp and keeping the nose lighter than a 1.8L turbo setup. This would be closer to my original idea of building a NB version of the M2-1006, which was a widebody NA prototype powered by a 929's V6 with FD rear suspension and diff.

So, Mazda6 engine, maybe keeping the stock 5-speed, and switching out the diff for an Aussie 3.63 unit?
