Just got the offer to help a mate on his farm. I’ll be driving a tractor with a trailer or two.. should I post some pictures?

You’ll assist it more then drive it, most tractors are GPS guided, & linked to the combine do it pours the grain in middle of the trailer.

Nope.. I’ll be the one driving it on public roads mate. Estimate of about 40 metric tons each trip.

Have fun causing tractorjams, & hearing lots of car horns.

They are? I know little of tractors but out of curiosity I looked at a New Holland brochure online and found no mention even as an option. Maybe it’s just really big and expensive ones.

Common on John Deere, as soon as you spend $350,000+ on peice of equipment you get it.

Neither his Lairdship nor I live in places where people often buy tractors in this price range. They’re for huge farms like you have in America or Australia.

When I visited (dairy) farms for work I heard farmers taking about it. In a common way, something many use. And I doubt Dutch farms are larger than Irish or swedish ones.

Can’t really do GPS on the grain cart (tractor on the left in this picture). They don’t just go up and down the row like the combine does. When the combine gets full the cart drives under the auger and the crop is emptied into the cart. Then the cart drives to a truck or bin.

Maybe you could use GPS while next to the combine, but if the tracks don’t match perfectly there’s a chance of running into the header. When I used to do this I was usually within two feet of the header, matching the speed of the combine, then moving foward/back and left/right at the command of the combine operator (who can see in the cart) so that it gets full evenly.

Add in lots of math to fill trucks to the proper weight and hauling ass across the field to keep the combine from having to stop and it can be a challenging and high-pressure job.
