Kinja'd!!!

I’ve never seen one used until today. And WOW, I need to get myself one for detailing.

And this is totally safe for work.

Do those actually clean without scrubbing, or is it just a faster way to get soap on the car?

COOOL!

Svend would kill me if he knew that I haven’t washed or vacuumed my cars in almost 2 months.

The idea is for the soap to lift as much dirt and grit as possible away from the paint so that when you rinse after foam, you are dealing with a lot less dirt before you put mitt to paint.

It’s for applying prewash. Loosens up stuff stuck to it/lifts dirt/grime off the surface. Still need to be washed, it’s just intended to help you start rubbing less stuff into the paint

Gotcha. If it was just as simple as foam, spray and dry, I’d probably get a power washer asap. Getting all the handwashing stuff out always guarantees that the kids will “help” too, and that takes forever.

WHAT?

Nah, it’s alright. Piglet hasn’t been done in a while, mostly because any rain cleans her. :(

I’ve been getting my kicks cleaning other peoples.

Piglet will get done tomorrow though. I got a new pressure washer today.

Old one and new one.

A good snow foam always has a place in my cleaning kit. It rarely takes 100% of dirt off, unless the vehicle is coated I’ve found. I can shampoo foam Piglet, let it dwell while I spray wheel cleaner on the wheels then pressure wash the lot off and dry her with a drying aid.

The more dirt you can remove without physically touching the vehicle the better. Most micromarring and swirls are inflicted in the wash process.

If applied correctly they can remove about 90+% of the dirt on the car.

Too watery and it’ll run straight off the car, too thick and it won’t soak into the dirt. So it’s finding the right balance.

Too bad I can’t run a pressure washer in my building’s car wash. Tried it at a friend’s, it’s awesome.

i have a cheapie amazon snow cannon and it’s awesome. in case you’re wondering, it works just fine with my electric pressure washer (sun joe spx3000 - bout $115-130 on amazon). i use it as more of a pre-treat and supplemental lube for a bucket wash than as an initial wash step. money well spent.

Gyeon Cure. It’s a sealant that can be used on wet and dry vehicles as a standalone sealant or used as a drying aid or a quick detailer.

Similar to Gtechniq C2v3 or CarPro Reload.

I’ve only washed my cars w/ the two-bucket method and have yet to try a foam cannon...so I have some questions on the subject:

1. Is the shampoo used w/ a foam cannon different from the shampoo used when normally washing the car? (i.e. the shampoo used when using a mitt and buckets)

2. Would it make sense to apply the foam cannon, agitate it all w/ a wash mitt, and then rinse, instead of using the usual two-bucket method?

snow foam then rise before going at it with a wash mitt

A dedicated snow foam is a shampoo with a larger dose of foaming additive and also contains varying degrees of degreaser to help break down the dirt and traffic film (benzene deposits).

You’d foam, go round the nooks and crannies with a degreaser spray and a detailing brush, pressure rinse, then two bucket wash.

The idea is to emulsify and lift the dirt to remove as much of it as possible using water and without physical contact from a mitt, etc...

What I do is water based degreaser spray around the lower valences, pressure rinse off, snow foam with a dedicated snow foam the whole car, pressure rinse, re-foam with car shampoo, them go round and wash with the two bucket method, pressure rinse then dry using a drying aid.

Thanks for the info! Would just degreaser-foam-dry (i.e. only skipping the two-bucket wash bit) be good enough for a maintenance wash?

Kinja'd!!! "Svend" (svend)
09/13/2017 at 18:45, STARS: 1

No, though the degreaser will break down the traffic filn, you want to use it correctly that it doesn’t strip your wax or sealant, plus you need that physical contact at the end to break the tension on the paint surface. There will always be a degree of film that needs that gentle wipe to remove. If you want to do a rapid maintenence wash, spray a fine mist of degreaser along the lower edges, spray wheel cleaner onto the wheels, pressure rinse, then snow foam the shampoo onto the car, then two bucket wash and rinse, then dry. I can get it done in 30-40 minutes from setting up the pressure washer.
