Don’t know how I’ve never seen a live version of this before, it’s gold!
Notes:
1. My god, I don’t even want to know what that keyboard hanging off his neck weighed in 1973
2. Check out the abject comedy that is that short scale (Mustang?) bass
3. This is some awfully tight playing for a jam rock anthem
4. Okay he’s actually pulling out the saxophone? It’s just masturbation at this point now
5. Wow this drum solo makes so much more sense visually
6. The Winter brothers are prima facie evidence for shoving your kids full force into rigorous musical training at an early age

This is from arguably the best live music show ever broadcast on TV: BBC’s Old Grey Whistle Test . The early versions of this show (including the performance above) have bands playing in a tiny studio with an audience of just the stuffy British TV production crew.
Elton John’s performance of “Tiny Dancer” still ranks as one of the best from this show IMO.

Listening to it, it’s not that obvious there’s a drum duet, and it just sounds like an odd layer. Then you watch it, and it’s like... “oh”.
